How many TPMS can be stored in ECU?

I'm trying to run a 5-tire rotation. The local tire shop doesn't know if the ECU will allow for 5 sensors. My spare never had a TPMS.

If I just ignore the TPMS on the 5th wheel, will the light go off if one of the original 4 tires is removed and stored away from the truck?

 

The spare has one in my 2010, so 5 should be fine.

 

I would think the dealer's service dept. would know better than the local tire shop. I'd ask them.

 

The newer Tundra's can program up to 8 tpms, haven't read anything on Tacoma's.

 

I think 5 sensors can be stored:

 

Doing the same with 5 aftermarket wheels and 5 Clone-able TPMS.
My Tire Shop Cloned 4, then hooked up to my ECU and Recalibrated/Reset the VCS.
They couldn't tell me if the ECU would read 5.
Had my dealership, hook up to the ECU and provided they actually did,
they told me my USA, 2010 V6 A/C TRD Sport will only monitor 4 TPSM's.
If you rotate and have a non-monitored on the ground and a monitored in the spare location, you should be good.
That's my plan, if the spare location accepts the larger tire.
If not, another mod on the list.

Might be the Canada Tacoma are capable of 5.
From info in this forum, 5 TPMS's were factory thru the 2008 model year.
'09 and newer have only 4.
That could have changed in the last couple years, but I have no knowledge of it.

pretty sure i had 5 available spots for TPMS sensors in techstream on my 2013.

 

Good to know. Do you have the Techstream to check it yourself?

I've gotta get a second opinion on mine.
My dealership is good with OEM stuff, but deviate from the manual......Not So Much.
After two Techs, I ended up explaining to the Service Manager that I wanted my VSC Recalibrated after increasing my tire size.
He looked a me like I had two heads, then started explaining, oversized tires will hydroplane easier, yadda, yadda, yadda.
Manual says they're supposed to Recal it after an alignment.
Makes ya wonder if they do.

You would think if the ECU had the programming for 5 thru 2008, It should be programmable in all model years

Sub, as I have a spare wheel & tire on the way to start rotating in, wouldn't mind having tpms in it if it will work.
