(I tried searching for this and couldn’t find a thread, but feel free to point me to one if I missed it.)

Wondering what the breakdown is in Tacoma production numbers by paint color. I figure white is most common and obviously something like Electric Lime is rare, but I’m curious about the actual percentages/numbers that are produced. Anyone have any info?

Currently I’ve got holds on two trucks (1 built 6/4 that’s stuck in limbo at port, 1 scheduled to be built 8/8) that are nearly identical - both are OR DC AT V6 4x4s that meet all my must-haves; differences are bed length and color. One is Army Green short bed, the other is Barcelona Red 6’ bed.

At my dealership they seem to get more allotments for Red than AG. Got me thinking wondering which color is produced more overall and by how much.

Also, I saw a rumor that AG won’t be produced after this year… Anyone know if that’s really true?

Toyota has that info. It is never released. Pretty easy to figure out thoo...
Here are the popular colors in 2022. There is no reason to think Tacoma buyers will be different than the rest of the world. I don't know about you, but I have never, ever bought a vehicle based on paint color. Here it is:
    upload_2022-7-29_14-55-11.jpg
For those of you who think this is wrong, it's not. You, for example, might see many more Army Green Tacomas than others for two reasons... 1) You might live in an area where that is popular or B) You notice the Army Green because you think it's a cool color and miss the hundreds of white and black Tacomas.

The popularity percentages are interesting, and yeah if that’s accurate, I can imagine Toyota customers would generally align with that. Do you think production reflects that popularity?

And yeah, for sure, it’s easy for it to look skewed based on where you live or what attracts your attention.

I’m just wondering how many Tacomas Toyota is producing of each color. Even general ballpark figures. There must be a way to find that out based on annual production numbers or annual sales, but I have no idea where I’d find that info. Maybe you’re right that Toyota doesn’t release figures like that? But it would be interesting to see are there, say, 200,000 white Tacomas built vs 35,000 Army Green vs 10,000 Electric Lime.

i dont know how someone can buy a vehicle in any colour and be happy. thats almost the most important aspect for me. i simply wont drive a vehicle if i dont like the colour. the disappointment i felt when toyota dropped voodoo blue hit me pretty hard

According to a few websites there were roughly 252,000 Tacoma's sold in 2021 in the US market. So that equates to roughly:

    White: 60k
    Black: 58k
    Gray: 39k
    Silver: 36k
    Red: 26k
    Blue: 22k
    All other colors: 7k

Based on that national average car colors posted above. Its probably not accurate but close enough. The vast majority of tacomas sold are White/Black/Gray/Silver, probably less than 10% for all other colors.

Since Quicksand (beige? brown?) was a special color for tacomas 2015-2020 it would probably have higher percentages than the entire market of car colors but still probably not above 5-9% of tacomas so 10k-20k for example. I know Cadillac had a similar tan color for the escalade but not many manufactures do.

I hear you. It’s a luxury to have a choice of color sometimes, especially on this market, but man it’s a luxury I appreciate! I wouldn’t prioritize color over other things that are actual needs and bigger priorities for me. But thankfully I have a couple options to choose from that meet all my needs and are colors I really like. I wouldn’t want to drive and see a color in front of me -across every landscape I travel- that I didn’t like. That’s some of what I’m contemplating with my Army Green vs Barcelona Red decision. Which do I want to see all the time? Not just when I see the truck from outside it, but seeing the color of the hood while I’m driving.

What are your dealbreaker colors? I’m sure everyone has different ones.

Red is the worst, bar none.

It fades, and looks awful over time. Especially because most tacomas aren't parked in garage.

:crapstorm: I'm reddy for you red fuckers. Bring it on.

What category would lunar rock fall into ... gray or green?

Yes, black was my only dealbreaker color. Beautiful when clean but shows everything.

Oh, cool, thanks for sharing that. Army Green and Red (the two I’m choosing between) got vastly different responses in that poll, interesting.

And yeah I imagine you’re totally right - Tacomas retain their value so well, why would paint color make a difference? Imagine, if anything, having a less common but high-demand color (like Cement, Lunar Rock, maybe even Army Green) could add to the value.

Probably Green, even though its a mix of green, gray and a lil blue it seems.

Black is a dealbreaker for me too. It looks so good, I wish it wasn’t a ”no” for me, but like you said, shows everything. More importantly, it’s just too hot where I live to be able to justify a vehicle that dark. Especially cause I park in the sun. Army Green is about as dark a color as I’d realistically consider.

And yeah, I’d guess LR would technically fall into Green. But it’s really such a combo…

Only if the niche buyers that missed it the first time still had interest when it was being sold again. And many wont care, so it will be a micro niche.

These will never be collector vehicles of significance, outside of the occasional 'barn find' 20 years from now. And certainly not worth 'investing in' to put in that barn.

So just buy the configuration/color you like and enjoy it.

Since you like Barcelona Red, what do you think of the new Solor Octane color?

Good points. And just getting what I like and enjoying it is my plan, for sure. Definitely not “investing in” any truck - want to get one I love. Having two holds on trucks of different colors -and I like both of them, just waiting to see which arrives first- just had me thinking.

75% of the top “colors” are boring as shit. But like Henry Ford said “ You can have any color you want as long as it’s black”. Bring back quicksand now! :bananadance:
