I dont know, but they are cool. One of the better looking stepside trucks ever made in my opinion.

Not a fan of stepsides or flaresides, the 1st gen Tacoma is one of the better looking trucks with a stepside bed. The one pictured looks good. I also see one on here with SCS F5s that's also silver, I almost want to say it has a SAS but can't recall.

Bartmaster, you dropped a zero there somewhere. Between NUMMI and TMMBC Tacoma capacity per year was over 250,000.

    Wikipedia says

"In 2008, Toyota proactively announced a 15-year, unlimited mileage corrosion warranty for 1995-2000 model years due to inadequate rustproofing and frame corrosion issues affecting over 800,000 Tacoma."

"On November 21, 2012, Toyota recalled about 150,000 Tacoma mid-size pickup trucks from the model years 2001 to 2004 that were sold primarily in 20 cold-weather U.S. states."

    ???

I said 150,000 was the production number by the end of 2004, as in that’s how many they made in 2004.

So the step side was an option for 7 yrs.?

Not a common option either, not unheard of but def. not common. I doubt many were even aware when shopping back then unless they happened to see one and it made a positive impression.

I s'pose it is possible 50K were made though after seeing the totals for those years so I'll place a vote there. I hade a 5 lugger with it for a flip and loved the look but did find the small bed kind of a drawback. Went to pick up a finish mower deck for a tractor and it wouldn't fit w/o damage to the truck.
Lots of people said the same about full size step sides through the years too though and actually the Ranger stepside was pretty popular.

I have a 2000 Tacoma side step. I didn’t seek it out (I bought it used several years ago, my main requirement that it be 5 speed manual, and it just happened to be a side step). I’m in the process of fixing it up now, and although I do like the look of the style, I’m trying to find a new tailgate for it, and it’s not easy to find one.
