between 250-500 mainly because I was on a massive road trip. I didn't want to change it right before I left as it was only about 1000 since the prior change, but I used synthetic that time because I knew the trip was coming and would probably go over.

If I'm busy I'll let it go to 1000 over. I've been running Mobil1 since the day I brought her home. No worries:thumbsup:

I believe Toyota warranty will forgive you up to about 10 percent or 5500 miles; and maybe a couple weeks past the 6 months (6.5 months).
Warranty claims for internal engine parts are certainly at risk of being denied, even if you use synthetic.

Most of the time it's handled before it's due. Sometimes it goes past due to time constraints or traveling for work.

Im not due for my first Tacoma change yet, but Ive gone as much as 1000 over the factory interval on previous vehicles.

Keep in mind that the factory interval is typically conservative. Your truck wont blow up if you are over due. I bet if you sent a sample at 5000 off to Blackstone Labs they owuld report back you still had a lot of miles life left in that oil.....

And even if you did have a warranty problem, by law they have to prove that a lack of oil changes is the cause.. They cant just deny you out of hand becuase you missed one.

You don't want to know... But as of yesterday it is finally done and will never happen again :D I put Mobil1 Full Synthetic Advanced for the first time and even though it says "15,000" mile warranty, I call BS-5000 miles/6mos maximum

When I was on the "free" oil change plan with my Tacoma they would allow you to be up to 1000 miles past the interval. I went past the recommended interval every single time. Now I use Mobil 1 and try to change as close to 5k as possible. Have gone over many times.

Agreed. Thats the old interval from the 70s which is totally unecessary given the better additives in modern oil and the better materials/tolerances in the engine. If you read the BITOG forums lots of people go well beyond 5k even on conventionals in a lot of vehicles with labratory measured useful life left in the oil. Synthetics go even longer.

I'd stick to 5k/6mo as long as you are in the warranty period to satisfy Toyota as mentioned above. I dont think there is any hard data to say a 3k interval will do anything besides drain your wallet faster.

For example, this guy has 300k on an '06 Tacoma running 10k+ synthetic oil changes (! :D)

I think it completely depends on what type of oil you run. We tend to change ours every 8000kms (5000miles) depending on how diligent we are with keeping track. We tend to run our volvo's up to 10,000 or 12,000kms (6250 to 7500miles) before changing. But we run conventional oil in them. In my tacoma I've gone full synthetic oil and filter, so I'm not planning on doing change till I've gone 20,000 to 22,000kms (12500 to 13750miles). If the US would just get onboard with the rest of the world and use the metric system it would be a lot easier than converting for you guys.

    Synthetic oil filter?

As for the longer mileage with Synthetic oil, I don't trust it. I don't remember well enough to quote but I remember something along the lines of yes, it's, true, some components of the oil do last 15,000 miles, but other essential aspects of the oil require it to be changed sooner than that.

I did it again. Got tired of paying truck payments and gas and traded in for a 2015 Honda Accord Sport since I enjoyed my 2013 Sport so much.
While under warranty? Probably within 100 miles.

After that I'm planning on 7500mi intervals.
