I've heard that the Inline Four engines are bullet-proof and will run forever, if properly maintained.

My buddy had 299,000+ miles on his T100 when he sold it and it was still going strong. I've got only 140,000 on my 2.7L and am going 18,000 miles between oil changes without having to add a drop in between.

    How about you guys ?

White Monster - I'm not sure that is the best oil change schedule. What kind do you use? With a good synthetic I have read/heard and practice 7500 miles between changes for my F-150. I go the recommended 5k for my Tacoma.

Ihad a 96 ford ranger 2.3L with 200k that ran perfect. I changed the oil every 3k with conventional oil since 70k when I got it. Went through two clutches in 130k miles though.

Have heard of some folks doing 20k between oil changes on some diesels.

165,000 on mine. I change the oil twice a year, once in spring and once in fall. But I only put 5 or 6 thousand miles on it in a year.

No way I would go 18,000 miles between oil changes. Good for you if it's working out, but in my opinion that wouldn't be conducive to long engine life.

I appreciate your views, which you of course are entitled to. I don't use perception, nor take other peoples advise. I do my own research and perform laboratory testing to determine what is best for me.

    I've already posted my findings, for all to read about and come to their own conclusions. Here is my thread for your convenience;

Once you have reviewed it, I'd be interested in your feedback.

I checked out your oil test results. Looks good! I never really considered sending in my used oil for testing, maybe I should.

But I think I would have a nervous breakdown waiting that long between changes...too many years changing it at 3000-4000.

I understand that the years of brain-washing by Stealerships, service centers and backyard mechanics advice is difficult to overcome, but scientific testing is also hard to refute .. especially when the same results are prevalent over and over again.

The main reason that oil change intervals regarding time duration is that the old petroleum lubricants absorb moisture and degrade the oil over time. Synthetics to not absorb water, so time duration becomes irrelevant. I am waiting for my latest lab analysis of over four years. Stand by.

right now has HDs in the front and back with crappy spacers (spacers are from previous owner).

looking into this toytec lift 3in lift.

    http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/BOSS-Suspension-System-for-955-04-Tacoma_p_784.html#

comes with the diff drop and going to add dakar leaf pack, gonna probably add the adjustable UCA while im at it

also need ball joints and new cvs but oem is pretty expensive trying to figure out what to do there. i put oreilly axles on last year and my CV angle is bad so they are already bad lol...

I've got serious "axle wrap" and just ordered Bilstein 5100's all around and Wheeler's Off-road 4- Leaf Spring pack replacements, in addition to all the various bushings and bumpstops.

Respectfully - do not need a lab test to see the oil is pitch black after several thousand miles. All that junk in the oil is slushing around through your motor for X amount of miles. For my trucks, I am convinced that it will last much longer and stay cleaner internally on a "regular" oil change interval.

I do like the research aspect though and I'm glad you have found a way to reduce maintenance intervals. It is admirable that your willing to go outside the norm and report your findings. I had an 85 Tacoma with the 22R and it had a bagillion miles on it when I got it. I dont know if the fella ever changed the oil in it. I killed It on the power lines fourwheeling (blown head gasket/overheating).

300k on my '97 2.7, I change the oil maybe once a year when I get around to it

The oil in my 2.7 says good for 16000 miles/24000 km

I am at close to 8k now, likely change it out soon, maybe around 10k.

Oil has come a long way. I changed my old car at 5000 mile intervals and it had 350k on it when I sold it. All in conventional oil, whatever was on sale.

Oil has a lot of myths out there.

No doubt the Toyota 4cyl will last a long time. Probably Contributes to the high resale values we see and the "most dependable brand" awards.

I wonder.........bet the majority of the 200k+ mileage crowd used close to factory recommended oil change intervals. I suppose my warranty has me tied to the the 5k right now.

The well written and posted data the Op collected from the oil analysis provides conclusive data right? Its hard to call things scientific without a baseline or control to contrast wear. I do believe there is validity to the extended intervals being ok for some depending on how the vehicle is used and what the environment is. Also, I just read the oil filter comparison writeup in the mod's and tutorial section. Good stuff too, just like this.

I am curious as to how the oil was collected for the sample. It may have posted and I missed it. Wear metals settle to the bottom do they not?

    Thanks for your research.

285,000 on the 2002 4x4 2.7. Really didn't have to do much to it. Regular oil changes. plugs and wires. Mufflers. Many sensors! AND the darn charcoal canister to get the engine light to go off. Wish I had a brand'y new 2002 again. A beautiful machine

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
There's a lot of OTR trucks that go 50k-100k on oil changes. Many of them on regular conventional oil, but they hold right around 40 quarts of oil so there's a lot more room for contaminates to be suspended is the reason they can pull it off. Oil analysis are the way to go to find out how far you can safely push an OCI. But for me, regardless of what they claim, I could never go longer than 10k on my truck personally. Amsoil has an oil that's allegedly good for 25k-30k miles, but I'd never attempt to go that far on it.
