How long can I use the AC outlet in the back of my truck before I need to worry about the battery dying? I’m going camping a couple weeks I don’t want to leave myself stranded.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

It only works with the engine running......so never, until you run out of gas.

Others will he able to say exactly on a stock battery.

If you go camping a lot, I’d suggest a small solar array ($100) and/or a small gas generator (few hundred $). These will definitely keep you from being stranded.

What is the draw of the device in watts? Convert this to (milli)amps and find out the capacity of the battery. This is always a variable, as batteries degrade over time. Figure out what amperage is needed to start the truck and the remainder is the power you have to use for the device.
This is probably not a sine wave converter, but a diode bridge, so not as efficient. ( correct me if i am wrong, tech class was a ways back.) Maybe 80%.
Honestly, solar panels are a great purchase. At least in the summer, a battery holds a much better charge than in winter.
What are you thinking of running?

Yeah I’ve used it for a Makita cut off tool for 15 minutes or more without the truck running. Not sure why the manual would say otherwise.

Keurig coffeemaker as a joke and make coffee. Lol. And maybe connect some chargers, etc. not sure yet. I just wanted to know how long I could use it before it risked draining the battery. There will be others there that can jump start me if needed I guess.

You can also pull the relay under the hood and jump the pins. Then it really works all the time even with no key, and at 400W capacity

Lead acid starting batteries are permanently damaged by deep discharges. Do not just rely on your buds to jump-start you, as you may ruin you battery if you run it right down.

    Good luck with that.

Yeah, heating elements and compressors draw a bunch.

if you are looking for something to run frequently and dont want to run your engine.......i would cobble together a basic solar power supply.

a couple DEEP CYCLE lead acid batteries, a solar panel, a charge controller, and a small inverter...you could put together a decent setup for <$500 and wouldnt have to worry about draining your starter battery.

Can't chime in on how long your battery will last but....if it dies...

I'd recommend getting a portable battery jumper - if your battery dies and you're alone, you can jump yourself. They're around $70 for a decent one that can jump large motors..I've used mine several times to help other people who are stranded, plus they double as a large cell phone charger and flash light if needed. Keep mine in my truck and charge it usually once every month or so (usually 95% battery remaining after 1-2months)
