So I was browsing these forums about weighty tacomas. The overall picture I got was people saying it was dangerous to be over the gvwr. So I weighed my truck and was 6864 lbs. Thats 1264 lbs over the gvwr. Thats with my gear in back but no tent. I dumped the gear and weighed again. Me my wife and 2 dogs and a empty truck came in at 6248 lbs. Still 638 lbs over the gvwr. I have steel front and rear bumpers rock sliders a winch and aluminum skids. But nothing else loaded and Im still that much over. Im just wondering if anyone here was like me and had problems with things breaking from extra weight. I was pretty shocked I'm that much over.

2020 Access Cab TRD Offroad. Only weight-significant upgrade is a set of 4 Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac LT245/75R16 120/116 E. Also a soft topper, but weighs little.

    Recent trip through the scale:
Fuel full, recovery bag in back seat, 20L spare fuel, no other gear

    F - 1240 kg / R - 970 kg
    = 4872 lbs total

The truck certainly feels heavy enough for me when I'm bouncing in and out of deep potholes. I'm unlikely to start bolting on huge pieces of steel... Okay, maybe rock sliders at some point.

4872 pounds, that’s nice. I tried to keep my build as light as possible, still came out pretty heavy.

Could’ve got aluminum sliders but then I would only saved like 80 pounds, and they were 2 times more expensive.

An aluminum rear bumper would be amazing but I don’t think it exists. Stock plastic bumper is absolute garbage, mine is barely held on by couple screws hah. I do also like to keep BSM.

    More impressive then yours.

Definitely on the heavier side. Last I weighed in was around 6300 with topper, tent, Decked, all my tools, fuel, water propane, propane fire pit, camp kitchen, spare driveshaft and spare CVS, skids, sliders winch, swing out, 35" spare.

Take a hard look at your gear and tools. See if there's duplicates you can leave at home or smaller, lighter weight tools. Doubt you'll get under 6000 lbs but it can make a huge difference if you can shed weight. I'd also consider a brake upgrade if you havent already. I definitely felt like my truck was difficult to slow down both on the highway and in traffic until i put on bigger disks. I am totally comfortable running over 6000lbs now.

What rear springs you running? Hard to imagine you're not slamming on the bump stops at that weight.

    Dang, Serg!!!

I believe my Sport tips the scales around 4100-4250 curb weight.

That's with TRD & Talon CAT skid, & bed mat...not much else I've added with significant weight.

Dang, let’s have a contest- fattest pig gets a prize.

I don’t have steel bumpers but with all the tools, compressors, topper and RTT, all steel underwear and sliders, a swingout, a 10-ton grip-hoist with cable and a pull-pal soil anchor, plus a 15 gallon spare tank, and even 10-ply tires including the spare, I may be a good contender. But…

    :lalala:Nope, not getting weighed! :lalala:

The stock turd bros are around 4450 with all them kits bolted to them. A non tech non moonroof sport should be significantly lighter

    2.2 pounds is a kilogram.
    0.454 kg is a lb.

Now you explain to us how the abbreviation for “pound” is “lb.”

    @Junkhead

The one time I went to the "Dump" and had my truck weighed going in and going out.

I could have sworn the scales were closer to 4100 pounds...but I could have remembered incorrectly. :notsure::notsure::notsure:

I hate using freedumb units, we require high school algebra to be able to convert between them, vs moving a decimal point a couple places over like everyone else, and we use ancient Roman phrases like “libra pondo” for our weight unit abbreviations and a dead King’s foot and old English for our length measurement units. It’s crazy!

Speaking of rabbit holes that should be left unexplored...

    https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/imperialism

"The policy, practice, or advocacy of extending the power and dominion of a nation especially by direct territorial acquisitions or by gaining indirect control over the political or economic life of other areas"

    Yup... Eh.

The US is one of very few global holdouts in adopting SI units of measure. Behind the scenes, any scientific research will be using SI, as do most (all?) car manufacturers who produce worldwide vehicle platforms with minor regional differences. Most of your (and our) mass produced goods are coming from overseas anyways, and I'll bet my truck they're using metric machines and measuring tools to make them.

Converting units is just an added annoyance that people have become accustomed to.
