How good are S&B air intakes?

How much money are you planning on putting into engine performance modifications. Are you shooting for 600HP. Ya get it. You just going to do OVTune - your purchase is just eye-candy.

 

A product that claims better filtration with better airflow, over basically the same surface area is a sham. You can get more airflow or more filtration. Not both. No more effective than the stock air box.

 

Not tearing into the engine. I highly doubt stock is that restrictive.

I ask because the business I own is an S&B dealer - unrelated to Tacoma - but we can get the full S&B line. I was considering one for the price, or heck I could sell them.

That's cool. Then you probably already know that an air cleaner upgrade alone is just eye-candy. You need to do a complete Stage One performance up-grade to see "any" benefits. And that leads to new problems in itself.

 

I have one. Admittedly I can't tell a difference in the performance. But, I can definitely hear a difference when I goose the throttle. You can hear the air being sucked into the engine.
After that, its just something I can say I did.
The down side is, a person can not put a dual battery setup that puts the auxiliary battery on that side. I had to go with the Genesis set-up

 

Typical of a CA system. A result of the direct, high airflow design also allows sound waves to egress easier.

For sure. I actually purchased it and had it ready before I took possession of the truck.
Once I installed it, I stopped debating which dual battery system I wanted, (Off-grid vs. Genesis). The decision was made for me.

 

Simply won't work for me. Dual air compressor.

 

Love mine! I actually gained about a 1.5mpgs matched with a BakFlip tonneau cover. Also left down shifting as well. Sounds good too. Now just need to add a Borla exhaust!

 

I just purchased one but have not installed it yet. I see that the Air pump has to be relocated
over next to the power steering pump. The kit seems to come with all the needed parts to
make it work. Even an extension harness for the air pump. So I probably will work on getting
the pump moved first and then do the filter box up upgrade. I got mine from /Extreme terrain
and I had heard on another post of issues with this company. Well I can say they shipped
fast included tracking data and the item arrived in good condition with all the required stuff.
So I have to say they did a good job. I just wish more info was on the site about having to relocate
the air pump. Had I known it was going to have to be moved for installation I most likely would not have purchased it.
And gone with something else. But I will make due with what I have. Pics included on installation of assembly.

Have you had any issues with CEL coming on after install ?
I see in my paperwork that came with the kit it says do not use any other (brand) oil or cleaner on the filter. I have both K&N oil and cleaner I could use. But is this just
to get you to purchase their product ?

Also I have a cat back exhaust in my future too.

 

All the ones I have sold are dry filters. Where are you guys buying these?

Yes you can use K&N oil - but think about it - filter manufacturers don't want people to drift to every kind of oil known to man.

 

I've been using these type filters and oil for years and most of the K&N products make similar claims.
However the K&N stuff can be purchased in Auto parts stores. The S&B oil has to be purchased on line
or from a local dealer. And no I would not just dump 30 weight oil on it and enjoy the ride. Smoke screen included for
special effects.

 

I've had one for two years I love it, mainly just for the looks and sound, ordering a paper filter as we speak today

 

Looks better than stock , that's about it.
