Hello everyone, I just got my new Tacoma a week ago. Tonight the wife and I are going to the drive-ins. I was wondering how "accessory mode" works with the push button start? Will it drain my battery?

    Thanks everyone.

Short answer is yes of course it will drain your battery down. Will it drain it far enough where it will not start when you go to leave? I guess that depends on how long the movie is! :)

I think accessory only stays on for 15 mins at a time. I could be wrong though.

I’d be more concerned about the accessory mode timer the push button start has

I'd either run the engine or bring a battery powered portable speaker with fm tuner. We went to a drive in last summer and engines running were not a distraction, but the guy in front of us that kept pressing his brake pedal was. Also of note, there was one car that ran accessory mode and didn't have enough juice left to turn over the starter. Luckily for him the place had a jump starter.

Drive-ins are not new and no stranger to dead batteries so don't worry about getting stranded. However the chances of getting to that point is slim. Unless your battery is on its last leg, you will be able to keep your truck on acc for a 2 hour movie and have no issue. You have three modes with push button just like a key. You have Acc, On, and Start. Start you know you have to put your foot on the brake. Acc is the first push when you don't have your foot on the brake and pushing it again goes to On. In simple terms Acc allows for less power use than On. The things that will drain your battery like windows, fan, etc. cannot be used with Acc. In the old days you didn't leave it in the On position because you could burn out your points because the ignition was powered, but obviously those days are long gone (something that you would have been warned against in the old days of drive ins).

To me this is just like unplugging your tv so that tiny red power light on it isnt using electricity.

My first thought was "What, what year is this?"

Days of taking my brother's C10 Chevy, we would back in, lawn chairs, and sneak a beer while watching the movie. Hmm, Tacoma is probably one lawn chair bed!

If you turn your truck off in Neutral, it will stay on past the auto shutoff of 15 minutes or so. Put it in park after you shut it off.

I have a cabin up in the north Georgia mountains near the small town of Blue Ridge. That town has a thriving drive-in theatre and it became even more popular during the 20 /21 pandemic.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
Yep, it'll auto shut off after 15 min to save battery. You may be better off bringing a boom box or dusting off that Discman with fm tuner. Stupid smart technology.

I went to a drive-in movie at the beginning of Covid and everyone had their vehicle running, I'm in Texas and you gotta have AC running basically 10 months out of the year except for when it snows lol.

The good news is your drive-in experience will come with a free battery load test

With as cheap, small, and how well they hold a charge these days, I can't imagine why one doesn't carry a jump pack all the time.

My truck had an audio delay that was noticeably annoying. I think it was because my HD Radio setting was on. Next time I'll need to try turning off HD.

Its a truck. Park backwards at the drive-in, stadium chairs in the bed, cheap battery powered boombox radio behind that, cooler full of beverages behind that. Buy snacks so they dont feel gypped. If you want the complete experience bring a light throw blanket for some groping action.

But otherwise, yeah, the neutral trick works. Bring your own jump pack so you dont have to wait on the drive in to find you.
