Hi all I have a 2017 Tacoma SR model with the factory steel wheels. I can't figure out how to get the center cap off. on the aluminum wheels it has a little notch where you would put a screwdriver or a prybar and pop the cap off. But on the steel wheels there's nothing. do I have to take the Lugnuts off first? To get the cap off.
    Thanks

What does your center cap look like? If you post a picture I can tell you. I know some are on there and pop off and one type the lugs hold it on.

Look closely, If you have the nuts with a washer, then yes, they hold the center piece on....Without the center piece, you would have to have the tapered "acorn" nuts without a washer..!!

Drive on a really bumpy road...

Thankfully I heard it pop off and saw it in the side mirror so I grabbed it and put it back on! On the TRD Sport wheels it's a kind of compression fitting, so a bit of pulling and prying should have it off fairly quickly.

Mine came off with little effort when I swapped a flat tire off. Forgot to put it back on until after the fixed tire/wheel was back on, and it just snapped into place with some mild tapping. Should be reasonable to pry off, my guess is there's a notch that the provided tire iron will fit jnto.

That one should pop right off. Since it's brand new might be little tougher.

Thanks for everybody's opinions and help. I just checked the center cap And there's nowhere to put a screwdriver or a prybar no little slot like there is on alloy wheels.

Check your nuts, as I mentioned above..!! :)
And, ...is that center piece made of metal, or plastic.....??

Pretty sure (99.9%) those steel wheels have the acorn nuts. That cap has to "pop" off.

On mine (granted they aren't these steel wheels but this looks similar) I had to flip the rim over and deal with the tension wire inside the center cap to get them off. You can get a small screwdriver in there and pop the wire out, then the caps should pop off.

Also, you may want to reverse this order when putting them back on, I found that one of the tabs on the inside of my center cap would bend if I tried to put them back on after putting the wire back inside while the caps were off.

Left hand three fingers in lug holes, right hand three fingers in lug holes. Push hands together and at same time pull.

I have been wondering if 16" TRD plastic center caps will fit on my stock off road wheels or the SR dark alloy wheels I also have? I would think the Pro center caps would or even the Baja TRD center caps. I have tried looking on line to see if they are compatiable but have had no luck!
