    Are there any steps req'd.

Would I save a lot of $$$$$ by doing it myself. Local shop wants 200.00 to powder coat.

2 Coats of primer, 2-3 coats of paint. I just use krylon fusion from wal mart, holds up nice if you let it sit in the sun for a day or so.

Also, if it gets scratched or what not it's an easy fix.

Lightly sand it to remove any rust scale, clean it up really, really well to remove any residual oils left over from the fabrication process, a coat of self etching primer, then your favorite paint or bed liner and you're good to go. All that being said, $200 for powdercoat isn't a bad deal at all if it includes all of the prep work.

Powder coat is a lot tougher than paint. But at the same time a lot harder to repair. Imho I would do what Mike said and bed line it. Bed line is easy to touch up once you scar it. Or line x it. But 200.0p for PC is a great deal if that includes blasting it and ccleaning it.

I painted my chrome one by myself. 6 bolts held it on. I removed all the plastic pieces. scratched up the chrome. cleaned the bumper. 2 coats of rustolium etching primer. 6 coats of bedliner.

I painted mine with POR-15 with a brush (2 coats) then sparayed it with ye olde Rustoleum Professional satin black. I am happy with the results.
