    Hello,

Just curious. Without or with snorkel, how deep can a Tacoma go in water and at what point does it get damaged? Where is water not supposed to access?

It depends on what parts of the truck you want to keep :) I wouldn’t go higher than the suspension ball joints since they will get wet and the grease will go bad.

smh a "snorkel" on a tacoma isnt for going into water. it is a dust snorkel. the wheels spin up dust in the wheel fender where the tacoma gets its air, the "snorkel" moves it to high above where there is less dust. turn on the submarine option in the menu and you will be able to drive underwater

Test it! It would be interesting to see a depth of water vs. repair bill cost comparison, ya know, for future reference.

Truck will run while submerged past the wheel well. Water will be in your lap shortly after. Max I'd go without damage/flooding is 2-3 feet

That video made me pause. The brain for the SRS system sits behind/underneath your phone pad in the center console. So about ankle height, with your shoes on the floorboard. For that reason alone I wouldn't want water to touch carpet. There are other reasons too, but thats a big reason.

Tangental story that I oft repeat - in college I raced bicycles. For fun I used to cross deep water/mud with my bike. This usually meant that the bike had to be torn down to its frame, cleaned, drained, dried, chain (and sometimes cables) replaced and all bearings repacked. Neglecting any step of that meant that expensive parts would be trashed after only a few rides, and this college kid would rather have bar money than parts money. After about a year of having fun, that wasn't so fun anymore. No way I would want to do that to my truck. At least, not anymore. I did, once. It was expensive.

Your alternator is mounted pretty low. Not a good idea to submerge it.

Yep. I've done some really muddy bicycle races... and while they're a blast, the post-event teardown that ensues is miserable. A little mud is OK, but if it's going to be a slog from start to end, I typically pull the ripcord and bail on the event. Plus, it's just not good for the trails.

I don't quite understand the obsession with going muddin' that a lot of people seem to quantify as off-roading (on bike or with their vehicle). That mud and water gets everywhere, and once it gets in, it's tough to get out. Inside the frame, bearings, bushings, shocks, moving parts, etc. It accelerates wear and tear tenfold, and I really don't like replacing parts more than necessary.

I don't know, I try to avoid any water over a couple of inches deep especially if it's moving. If at all possible it's best to pull over and wait it out if turning around is not an option. If there's a way to get off the highway just be careful your not driving into a wash out sink hole. Those flash floods are no upload_2023-1-17_8-51-18.jpg

I'll copy n paste my answer from last week's thread

"I didn’t read all the replies, so maybe this has been mentioned already.
The problem is, not the depth it can handle, rather not being able to gauge the depth until it’s already too late. Turning around or backing out is the same unknown."
