Hi all just looking for some opinions. My wife has a Hyundai Elantra and the seats kill my back and it’s just too small so been talking about getting something larger. Currently don’t have any kids but probably in next 1-1.5 years will. My wife doesn’t want an suv for whatever reason how decent is the Camry at being a mom car?

Looking to do a get a bigger car and not have to buy anything else in the next 5-10 years

The Camry is probably the quintessential mom car. Try out the seats at the dealer and make sure they're comfortable for you. I think there are at least two different seat designs depending on trim level, like with Tacos.

My grandmom had an 88, 94, An 02 Avalon and now a 17 Camry SE.

I'm really considering it been having front end problems with the Elantra going back to the dealer now the third week in a row.

One can never have too many light bars.
Maybe try to find a used Lexus GS. Works as a mom car that you can swing the back end out on weekends!

wife had a V6 Camry. i didn't hate it. actually, quite enjoyed driving it. followed that up with a V6 Avalon, which felt like a boat. she's now got a Pacifica, which trumps any sedan as far as mom vehicles go.

    --edit--

sorry, missed the 2021 part. can't help there.

It’s hard to find an XLE new right now that isn’t black or silver.

Wife’s now on the it’s insane to buy a new car after three years my argument was people that lease do that exact thing!

it’s amazing how hard it is to find a new XLE that isn’t silver or black. Now she’s taunting the idea of a midsize truck but doesn’t want a Tacoma because she hates the brakes and steering. She likes the Colorado and the Ridgeline I don’t know where this is gonna end up

Avalon’s are definitely beautiful cars. She’s made clear she’s pro van eventually I made it clear I’m anti me paying for it lol. Honestly vans are fine my cousin had one and his wife had to argue for him to let her borrow it he was very territorial of that thing. When he totaled it he cried for days.. he was really upset when he got her Crv as a replacement and she bought some Subaru sedan.

Get a van now and leave only the front seats in. Most vans can carry full sheets of plywood flat unlike most trucks.

CVT Transmission not a fan. That's why I bought the wife a very low mileage 2016 corolla 3 years ago because it had the last of the regular transmissions. I only have one service done at the dealer and that's the trans flush! Service Manager even thanked me for not buying the CVT Trans. Your results may vary! I'm sure you might find this in a Camry as well!

I really liked my 2015 camry se, but it developed a pretty severe rust problem on the body. I caught it before it was extremely noticeable and traded it in for the tacoma I have currently.

My guess is two or less kids would be very pleasant but more than two kids or very long road trips would be a comfort & cargo challenge.

The plan is two kids total everyone I know the third kid is where the expenses really started adding up. Larger car, bigger house , etc.

someone once told me don’t have the number of kids outnumber the number of parents.

Yours is the first recent Camry I’ve heard about rust hopefully no problems when in comes to your taco!

When my wife got her Elantra my old coworkers son whose a mechanic was mad because I didn’t know about the rust problems they have... to this day I still haven’t heard of any Elantras rusting away..

I was never an SUV or crossover guy myself but things change after kids. Car seats, strollers, and all their junk takes up way more space than you think and that's where having a hatch or more cargo space comes in handy. Plus, for me and my wife (both of us sub 6 footers), swapping out car seats into something low slung was a pain in the ass. Pre-kids, we both had sports sedans (IS350 Fsport and Q50s).

Not suggesting a Highlander or something big, but I think a Rav4 is worth considering. Especially if you want to keep it long term and are planning for 2 kids in the near future.

I tend to agree I love the Camry’s big trunk but especially with a stroller I can see the benefits of an SUV. We looked at the Tucson and the RAV4 she hated the visibility on both. The Kia Sportage she seems to like the visibility but can’t seem to get over the fact it’s a Kia despite she currently has a Hyundai.

She has now mentioned Wranglers about a hundred times but then whenever I show her the price she says forget it and there is No way I’m paying Tacoma money for an FCA product.

I don't know how good of a mom car a Camry woukd make. Probably a pretty good one. I myself would drive a Camry, I like the TRD Camry, even if I think its a little over the top in the race inspired styling department but I still like it.

My wife wanted a4runner but we ended up getting a Highlander for the practicality, have used the folding third row a surprising amount between trips with grandparents and kids friends. If your going to add kids, Highlander is hard to beat. If you want for 10 year with kids a camry may not be ideal

I helped my mother in law shop for a new grandkid hauler a couple years ago. She wanted a sedan so she didn’t have to lift kids up too high. She ended up choosing an Accord, ironically thinking the Camry and Avalon looked too grandma even though she is a grandma. I thought the Avalon kicked the pants off a Camry or Accord for back seat accessibility. I was even a little bit disgusted with myself at how much I liked driving the Avalon, it was really roomy and surprisingly quick.
