Disclaimer: I am aware of the hate I will receive.

But I have been looking at running an 18,19, or 20 inch wheel.

The 20 inch wheels are definitely obnoxious and horribly flashy, but the look has really grown on me.

What kind of lift/offset, tire size would I need to run a larger rim (18+)?

And also, does a 2nd gen wheel fit a 3rd gen? It looks like the bolt pattern is the same, but I wasn’t sure if the wheels would run or require cutting, just looking for confirmation

    2nd will fit 3rd gen ...
as for wheel size, its all in numbers game, if you're looking at an aftermarket 20" wheel it's about offset and tiresize. HOw high would you like to go? I was previously on a 20x10 with a -19 offset on a 35x12.50x20 MT tire on a 6" lift, if that gives you any idea

Certainly gives me a good idea. This is probably an even dumber question, but do you need a 6 inch lift?

I’d prefer just to stay on the stock height and save a few $, max I’d like to do is 3” if need be though

Going from a 16" stock wheel to a 20" aftermarket wheel you are going to lose a lot of sidewall. IMO, the smaller diameter of the wheel; the better overall ride will be as you bumps and imperfections of the road are absorbed more. Your suspension will also come into play with the overall feel and handling.

2nd gen wheels should fit on your 3rd gen fine.

Offset and backspacing are going to depend on what you are looking to achieve. Do you want your tires to poke more out of the fender wells? Are you looking to get larger tires? The wider the wheel/tire combo the more likely that you will be doing some sort of trimming.

You can run a larger wheel without adding lift as long as you stay as close as possible to the factory offset and backspace. As well as keeping the tire height and width as close to factory as possible.
