At the least a WDH is needed. OP did you even check the tongue weight of your setup? What is the weight of the trailer with your Bronco or didn’t you check that either?

IMO you are unsafe based on your sag in the rear and the lack of weight on the front. That is purely visual but I bet the scales would verify you are considerably overweight in terms of tongue weight.

He should put the Tacoma on the trailer and use the Bronco to pull...

No way. It is safer to squat the truck than it is to have the rear end lifted high. It makes the truck extremely unstable when trailering. You always want more weight in front of the trailer axle versus more weight behind the trailer axle .

If you flip that Bronco around or move it back on the trailer and get some better weight distribution on that trailer, you'll have a much better time towing. That much weight on the front of your trailer is equating to a high tongue weight.

Agreed, but he would still be plenty heavy of the front with it flipped around and in the same location.

I agree it is safer to squat but I think that is way over the rated tongue weight just visually.

I'm with MT. It's safer to have too much tougue weight than not enough.

I would take maybe 100-200 off the bumper by moving the horse back a touch. I still would rather sag the truck a touch.

As for weight dustribution hitches. They are usually used on trailers that there is no way to change tongue weight. Camper trailers for example.

I've towed this same setup before many times... With my 1500...

I'm tellin' ya, he'd be better if it was turned around..

This is not my opinion, it is a fact.. Because I've drove on and backed onto these things many times, and even with Bronco backward, that tongue is going to be heavy..

The engine will near sit right over the rear axle, and the rest is sitting way to the front still...

    Nope.
You do realize how much more weight is in the front of that truck don't you? You will lift that hitch right off the ball if it's not latched.

He’s right, backing it on would still provide some tongue weight and would not put too much weight behind axles causing tongue lift. I’ve done this.

Totally disagree. This isn’t a lesser of two wrongs situation. You need tongue weight. That isn’t up for debate. But too much takes weight off of the front end and you can lose control.

Look at the trailer for a second. If he flipped the bronco the motor would be over the rear axle but the length of the trailer would allow enough vehicle to be towards the tongue for there to be enough tongue weight.

There are rules of towing for a reason. You can’t just make it up as you go. People have crashed by not loading and towing with the proper weight bias. This is why you weight your tongue and overall trailer. As the OP is loaded in his pictures when he slams on the brakes the trailer will dive under the tongue weight and weight transfer. I have seen wheels lift at the front until they won’t steer the vehicle anymore. So you let off the brakes and it puts weight back on the front and then the truck turns abruptly.

Scales are the only way to figure out the safe way to tow this vehicle. If your trailer is too short you can’t move your load enough to get the right weight bias. But as it is loaded there is no bloody way that Tacoma is safe to tow this load as it is loaded in the picture. You guys can argue away but that picture says unsafe.

Now here is my enclosed with a 550lbs tongue weight out of an OEM recommended 650lbs maximum. My WDH is arriving on Monday. Note how much sag I have compared to the OP’s setup. This is still safe without the WDH but will tow even nicer with it. So if mine is approaching maximum looking like this with a weighed and verified tongue weight of 550 then how far over is the OP?

For those interested: Tacoma can pull 6800 according to specs. Trailer was 1300lbs with a 3700lb Bronco. Add in another 500lbs for extra items and still under trailer rating. 400 mike trip going 50mph. Shocks weren’t bottomed, have to say I was impressed with pulling power.
