Went to honk at someone who ran a red light in front of me and noticed my horn sounds a lot more like a Prius suddenly.

Is it possible that only half of the horn is working or are the multiple fuses the issue? The 10a is fine, checked it. Would it still work at all at if the spiral cable was the issue?

maybe one of the horns has a bad ground. i would tighten the bolts on the horn bracket to see if that fixes the problem.

I'd guess bad ground. That is what happened when my sharptones were a little tinny befire I recrimped them and got it working full blast.

It's possible one of the horns went out, but that'd be a first I've heard of.

Appreciate that. I did see there is a high note and low note horn, so I'd guess I can check that one. I think it's the left that's the low note?

The tone for the horn was marked on them if I remember.

Water in the horn could effect the tone since it might deaden a diaphragm.

So turns out it was a few issues. Wires were rotted to the low horn. And when I tried to plug the harness into the low horn from the high it still would not work. Appears to be a TW first. Blown low horn, likely due to rust. Got a salvage yard nearby will get a donor graft later this week. IMG_20181105_185854.jpg

I bought my 4 Cadillac horns on ebay and wired them up with a relay. They're loud, but not quite, make people in another car with the windows rolled up crap their pants, loud. So, I bought 4 more and wired them up with another relay. It's definitely louder, but not twice as loud. Over all, it definitely makes people jump, and look, and the tone let's people know you're serious. If you REALLY want to make people crap their pants, there is no substitute for an air compressor, air tank, and real air horns.

I suppose 2002-2009 4runner horns will also work as replacements. The connectors look the same. Can anyone confirm?

Anyone have a part number for the jumper wire between the two horns....or would I be able to just run a wire between them?

So installed the new horns from a 3rd gen and all good again. Swapped them out, bolted on, soldered wires together and tested. Seemingly louder than my stock horns from 05. Suspect there was a slow degredation. For whatever reason 3rd gen salvage horns were cheaper on eBay than 2nd gen.

Summary for future readers: PA salt causes rust, rust kills horns (and rots wiring), easy to replace, 2nd and 3rd gen horns are cross compatible, at least through 2018. No more Prius horn.
