Do you by any chance have an aftermarket alarm installed?

The duration is very short. Almost like a chirp but it's definitely the horn and not the chirp from the alarm. No I do not have a factory alarm. My taco is bone stock. I get 1 beep when locking and 2 beeps when unlocking

    Thanks for the help guys

How long have you had the truck? Any mystery black boxes under the dash? First post says it honks when you turn off, next says it's when the doors lock and unlock.

When you turn the truck off sounds like a problem. When you lock/unlock (assuming with a keyfob) that sounds like factory alarm or aftermarket tied into the horn.

I don't know if first gens had the lock/horn feature or not. Neither of mine has had power locks. My mustang will flash the parking lights with the fob, will do a confirmation honk with a couple presses of the button and it can be set to honk with the first press if you really want it for some reason.

my fault for not communicating properly. It only happens when turning off the truck. I just bought the tacoma last week.

I dont see any mystery black boxes under the dash.....

I get the beeps (not the horn) when locking/unlocking the doors with the key fob

Almost sounds like one of those aftermarket alarms that integrates with the factory alarm (Karr was doing this when I worked at a DFW Toyota dealer back in the day). See if you can locate something like this under the dash especially see where the ignition wires are coming from the key, if there is an aftermarket alarm it will have a relay close by to interrupt the starter when armed (right side of picture).

If you lock your truck with the key fob and try to start it after about a minute does the alarm go off and prevent the cranking?

Ok so I looked up under the dash and found some T connectors and a fuse that have been wired into the stock harness on the left hand side of the steering column. I thought the truck was completely stock. I know the photos aren't the best but any idea what this is ?

Remove the fuse and see what quits working.

    Likely an aftermarket alarm/remote.

Follow those wires see where they terminate. Those T-taps scream aftermarket alarm. As Clearwater said remove the two fuses see if the honking stops.

Yep, follow them and odds are you've found your mystery box. I can't tell what wires they're connecting to but they look like a heavy enough gauge it may have a remote starter/alarm. Pull the wires, if everything is good you're probably set.

FWIW, I always start by suggesting the mystery box under the dash. I think I'm batting close to 1000 on that one

This what I have under the dash. "Ultimate Omega R&D"

I took out the fuses but the honk persists. Thinking about ripping the whole thing out ? Thoughts?

I would. Carefully, but I've never seen one that I wanted to keep.......... or any reason to.

Others feel differently I'm sure, or there wouldn't be any market for this stuff.

Try to unplug the "brain" of the aftermarket add-on alarm from the wiring harness, that should completely disable it. If there is an starter interrupt relay it will be in the closed position by default so your truck will still start.

This may not be it, but :

My truck honked when the battery in my remote start fob was dying

Viper brand. I called the installer, and they knew exactly what it was
