Hi all! looking to change hood support rod to gas struts.
Saw after market kits that have you drilling and riveting brackets to hood and fender.
I would like to avoid that if possible.
There are threaded bolt holes on my fenders and hood that look like they may be for the brackets.
Could somebody with hood struts send pic of brackets?
    Thank you!
    Chip

Thank you both! I’m leaning towards the Amazon version.
Not fond of making more holes in the body than needed.

    Just my personal opinion!
I did research on both. I liked the option of not drilling into my hood. But I read a good bit about the drilless ones. They eventually have problems with the brackets getting weak or the bolt backing out.

So I got the redline struts. The instructions that came with them were amazing and the warranty was the biggest reason I got them. Plus they are USA made. Another reason is a strut goes bad. I can just replace it without a problem.

    Again just my thoughts!

Oh! I also got them when they had a sale. I got the quicklift elite too.

I have the Skokie struts and didn't drill any new holes. Bolted right on . No problems with them.

I have one of the heaviest Tacoma hoods (Sport with the scoop, plus added underhood lights), I'm not a particularly big strong guy, and I have no problem lifting the hood.

I looked into the various struts, and found downsides to all of them. On balance, this wasn't a modification worth making.

biggest advantage to the drill-in kits is that you can set the angle of the hood.

i set mine as high as the hood would go. it's great to have that much access under the hood!

I normally don't like drilling holes in a vehicle. Hood on my off road was too much of a chore for me. I like to check under there often at least for oil level and replace window cleaner/defroster. Have arthritic old arms. I installed Redlines and couldn't be happier. No problem with the holes as they are hidden by the struts. Suggest using an adaptor attached to a hand drill to make pop rivets easier to install. I went slow and measured several times.

Totally agree and did the same thing. I am 6’1” and have to stretch to reach the hood but the extra clearance is totally worth it.

You can but they do tell you where to measure and drill… and probably for a reason lol

Some of them are adjustable, others come in different lengths.
With no drill you’re set at one height and the angles of the struts are whack. Potential to bend the hood applying too much force in the wrong spot for the convenience of not drilling.
