I've googled it and can't find any information on this type of modification. Can anybody provide some insight before I start hacking away at my '21 Pro?

No such thing on the Tacoma .It could be done but it would be a custom build with no real advantages to having it . Unless you plan to run a supercharger or a turbo set up to accommodate the extra needed air .

Thanks for the response. So the idea of creating "ram air" has no positive effect on the engine? I don't have a clue myself but I figured there would be people on here that did. Thanks again.

When I installed a sy klone pre filter on my arb safari snorkle , I immediately noticed a slight decrease in performance. Need to push the pedal more to get the same performance while driving. I then removed it and only plan on using it when driving thru the desert or dusty roads. That said, in my experience, the air ram has positive effect on the engine. Others may argue but they don't have first hand experience.
Although having a snorkle is different ,it is similar to what you're trying to achieve its just a different design. Both Having a positive air ram effect .

Back in 1969 when the Pontiac GTO came out with a ram air option, I read that the ram effect was just a sales gimmick. The miniscule HP gain was from the cold air it provided.

They do make a hood that makes the hood scoop functional but you actually get less air. Trucks are designed so that air hits the grill and goes over the truck. There’s substantially less air flow hitting the hood than there is the grill/roof of the truck. Even if the truck was lowered it would be a defecit to performance. The only thing you would gain is being able
To say “my hood scoop is real”

    In '67, these worked:

    As did these in '64

But those had carburetors and took the air in at the scoop...

If you want a currently produced functional air scoop on a fuel injected car you should look at the Dodge Demon (and maybe the Hellcat? Can't remember if that one has a functional hood scoop.) Otherwise they're pretty much all for show.

They started using the headlights as intakes. Challengers are flat faced and have the same issues trucks do with air low and pressure zones on the hood. Vipers and corvettes are designed better for hood scoops.

I’ve only seen one aftermarket hood that had a ram air scoop. I saw it once 5 years ago and I never saw it again

They claimed cooler, denser air was closer to the ground.

    Far to much money spent.
My hellcat scoop is for heat exchange over the supercharger the actual air intake is thru the headlight opening.

It’s more about getting cooler air into the motor than positive air pressure. This can be achieved in other ways.
