Anyone had to replace the grommet where the bottom of the hood prop rod attaches to the grille frame? I have the part number and can most likely find it at the local dealer (along with the window switch panel, which rattles), but was wondering if anyone had something that worked just as well for that grommet.

I don't have the info you want. Haven't had to replace it yet.
But I did add a bit of protection at the other end. A piece of split hose:

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I am sure you can find something in a local hardware store with some looking.

Mine crumbled and fell off years ago.

Thanks to both for your suggestions. TBH, I won't really need the prop rod anymore, or have a need to replace this grommet, as I am installing hood lift struts tomorrow, but thought it might be a good idea to leave that prop rod on for an emergency...

Where are you getting your hood struts from?

Leon was very helpful in getting my order placed, it arrived in 2 days, was very well packaged, and the instructions are very complete with color pictures. There's also several videos of the installation on their website, two of them by Timmy the Toolman.

After installing the hood struts, I pulled off the prop rod to inspect the plastic insert that goes in the hole, and it seems to be intact. A little bending of the rod to help it line up, good to go. No new grommet needed after all. Especially in light of the fact that the prop rod is no longer needed, just there as a back up.

Duct tape or an adhesive velcro strip might also serve for a semi-permanent solution, since you don’t need it most of the time.

I edited my post to say no new grommet needed. The one I had works fine.
