Hey anyone else noticed that the glue that holds the hood to the support brackets is not holding very well?

There's a TSB for that problem. Take it to the dealer for it to be fixed (re-glued)

Do you have the tsb number? That way when I take it to the dealership I can tell them to look it up.

This issue has come up in so many places, I don't know where best post it.

"My" problem. I want to purchase a 2018 Off Road. My dealer has two that are fresh off the transport. Both are basically just what I want. They have not been through dealer prep. Both have the hood adhesive problem. I have been following this problem for over 2 1/2 years...and it still exists.

This thread from the Gen 2 Forum shows that this was also a problem with earlier models. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/hood-defect-on-a-2015.374858/ As a matter of fact,my wife's 2015 Off Road has the problem and I posted on the Gen 2 thread a couple of times. I have never noticed fluttering, but still the adhesive has separated. I did report it to my dealer's service department and it is on record. Back in 2015 and early 2016, there was no TSB on this issue.

I showed my sales person the hood adhesive problem on both of the new Off Roads. Off we went to the service department. They were not aware of this issue and ran a check on TSB's. There were no TSB's showing this to be an issue. I talked with three long time service writers. They were not aware of any complaints regarding hood flutter or loose hood adhesive.

I think that most Tacoma owners would never consider checking to see it the hood adhesive was adhering as it should be. Then too, maybe the adhesive was used simply to hold the hood in place while it was being assembled as stated in the Gen 2 thread.

I'll just bet that the Sports have the same issue, but the extra bends for the scoop make the whole hood more rigid. By the way, the hood problem would not be limited just to the Off Roads, it would also apply to the SRs and the Limiteds. That is a heck of a lot of Tacomas.

Do I buy one of the Off Roads? Probably if the price is right. I won't get into the engine/transmission issue, but after test driving a Colorado, I'll stick with a Tacoma.

Edit: Nope. I'll not buy a Tacoma if it has a hood adhesive problem before delivery. Just may have to think about a Sport with its wonderful scoop. I've been driving 4WD vehicles for over 35 years and never had to use "crawl control" or even a locker. An LSD has always worked for me.

You just won the most ridiculous reason EVER for buying a Sport model

Scoop does look sweet though

What is almost as "ridiculous" is buying an Off Road with its "crawl control" and locker and really never going "off road". My wife has had both a Gen 2 Sport and a Gen 2 Off Road. She/we bought the Off Road because she liked the color. That's pretty ridiculous too. Truck people do strange things. We live in the country and have to travel on roads that are often very muddy and messy. 4WD with a limited slip rear differential is just enough and is not and all that "ridiculous". Are you sure that the scoop is "sweet"? I'm not so sure that I can live with "sweetness"

Now back to scoop hood issues. :D

Mine was 'fixed' but it was a poor job, so I bought the stuff and did it myself. I enjoyed the Tundra loaner though, so I think we broke even on the deal ;)

Once, in my youthful naivety, I said “well thats just dumb” to someone I worked with who bought a 2 wheel drive Jeep Cherokee. I asked what’s the purpose of buying a Jeep if it isn’t 4 wheel drive? And of course the obvious answer was that it was the size they wanted, price they accepted, style they enjoyed, and they had zero needs to go off-road. In short, it met their desires and what the hell did I have invested in their decision?

Tell them you will by one of them IF they would provide a scooped hood.

My new 2018 DCSB TRD Offroad has the same problem. Just took delivery on 6/2/2018 and noticed the hood flutter on the way home. Ugh. Leaning towards fixing it myself.

Was completely ready to buy a TRD Off Road. Had thoroughly checked it out except for the hood. Perfect cosmetically. Opened the hood and saw that some of the adhesive had already separated from the bracing. Bought a TRD Sport instead. I don't need crawl control or a locker and am OK with the "skewp". Been driving 4x4's for over 35 years. None had lockers just limited slip rear ends.

UPDATE: Took my new truck into my dealer, along with links to this thread and the link to Mazda's TSB on the same issue (thanks to everyone on this forum). The dealer consulted with Toyota, determined appropriate adhesive and repair procedure, and fixed my hood. Just got it back today after an overnight at the dealership. They applied a black adhesive (not sure if it's the 3M NVH) to most of the underhood connection points and all is well for now. All of the hood flutter is gone. Rock on!

Just bought a 2019 2 days ago and noticed mine was doing this the very next day on the way to work. I googled the problem and found this thread. I will report back when resolved.

Mine is the same, don't want to go to the dealer and wait all day for something I can do. I blame the california heat.
