Can anyone help me out where I could find one of these hood insulators. I’ve called multiple dealerships with no luck. I also wanted to see what other people’s thoughts are on if it’s worth the money.

How does the hood insulator work?

The engine is under the hood the driver is in the cab. Does the engine noise penetrate the hood and go thru the windshield into the driver's ears? Seems like all the engine noise is already outside of the truck.

test drove an SR5 and two lower trim TRD ORs.

the ORP has the hood insulation. i hear the turbo and engine way less in mine than the others (ORP also has acoustic glass, unsure if the others do)

It's not insulation. It's sound deadening. It absorbs engine noise. My truck has it, and it's quiet.

I know it absorbs engine noise. Occupants don't sit on the hood though they inside the cabin behind the fire wall and windsheild. I can't imagine the insulator is doing much of anything to stop sound from entering the cabin.

The insulator keeping the undeside of the hood clean, and keeping some engine heat from baking the paint on top of the hood could be a benefit, even the added weight to the hood could be worth it.

Youtube challenge for the tubers. Take the same truck run it down the same road with the insulator and with out the insulator and measure the decibels inside the cab.

I think the acoustic glass will stop more sound than the hood insulator. I can't imagine these turbo4s are that loud to begin with.

Apples to oranges if you want a quiet vehicle get a BEV.

They are pretty quiet, I don’t see it being much of a difference?

In the entire history of the Tacomas, not one has had the hood paint baked off from engine heat. Not my first, second, or third-gen Taco. And my fourth-gen truck is a lot quieter than any of those and it has the sound deadening on the hood.

Yeah but this one has a turbo, I doubt if underhood temps will get that hot, but take a 4G with out a hood insulator drive it in Arizona in July with a set of 35s and maybe just maybe temps get so hot it damages the clear coat. They don't build them like they use to.

The turbo is actually down pretty low, so more heat soak under there than anything.

I actually like I can hear the engine. I for some reason enjoy the noises it makes, but we all know here I'm strange

All... I was very unhappy with the simply awful motor / turbo noises of my new 2024 Tacoma. Note that I am a long term Tacoma owner having traded in the 2007 that I purchased new. So unhappy in fact at 650 miles on the new taco I test drove a Ford Ranger which with a similar turbo drive train sounded much better. I thought so why does the taco sound like marbles in a tin can plus a police whistle and the Ford sounds well OK, certainly not like a sports car or full size truck but OK. So my dealer mentioned to me that the taco Limited and TRD Pro have an under-hood sound dampening insulator. After taking a quick test drive in a Limited I stopped by the parts department and purchased the insulator mat & attaching clips. Installed in the dealership parking lot in 2 minutes and eureka!!! Drove away happy with my new Tacoma TRD Offroad. This should be standard on ALL Tacoma's. Yes I see people saying if doesn't do anything, FALSE it makes a huge difference. Also note that the list price is $405 but can easily be purchased for $280 at the parts counter. Don't forget the 10 clips!
Toyota Tacoma Under-Hood Sound Insulator PN:53341-AK010 and the clips are PN:90467-A0003.

You do realize that some engine noise is intentionally piped in through the sound system, don't you?

Yep I realize that some “motor sound” is piped in to the cabin to try to mask the awful clank/weeze/whistle racket. Just saying that without the sound insulator under hood I think the vehicle is unacceptable and Toyota should install on all models as standard. Note I do like motor sound when it sounds well like a motor.

I disabled the piped in sounds and it made my engine sound more course in the cab, IMO. I am going to look at the underhood insulator as well. This engine sounds more like my Kubota diesel than any other 4 cylinder I've owned in the past, but I'm trusting Toyota that it will go the distance like most of their other products. And if not, I guess that is what the warranty is for.

But I agree that the underhood mat should be standard for all trim levels.

The question i have is it worth it? Or will there be an aftermarket that's cheaper and better?

I have the insulator and have never understood why anyone complains about the engine noise. Took me a while to figure out that not all trims have it. I also added some killmat under the insulator when I did the door panels. Made a big improvement. Now that I have pulled the entireninterior and added sound deadening to the roof, back wall, and floor, it's quieter than just about any vehicle i have driven.
Also, I turned off the "engine sound enhancement" crap.

How did you remove the headliner and how did you turn off engine sound enhancement?
