I just noticed my hood doesn't have the inner hood insulation. Is that normal? 2019 TRD Sport.

The insulation interferes with having a functional skewp.

There is a small insulation blanket under the plastic engine cover on the 6 cyl.

    Better imo.

Gotch . Thanx for the info. I figured it would have a cutout for the FULLY FUNCTIONAL skewp that adds 25hp

Also the insulation gets destroyed over time and eventually falls off so you end up just removing it so it doesn’t get sucked into the belt and cause the belt to slip and the alternator pulley stops turning and you drain the battery and you lose all power steering and you overheat because the water pump wasn’t spinning the fan.
    Yes, I’ve seen this happen.
edit: the idler bearing seized up because it got wrapped up in the insulation.

The insulation in my old BMW E30 still looked nice after twenty years and 250k

There were a few players that used stuff that would just fall apart, mostly looking at GM

The guy at the dealership told me the 4Runner hood insulation is a perfect fit for our Tacos. I haven't purchased it yet.

Does it really fit? I have asked multiple people with a 4runner and Tacoma to check if they are swappable, since it seems the holes seem to all match up.

But no one has gotten back to me or followed up on it.
I was to at least make sure, before I drop money on it. Do not want to end up with an large expensive paper weight.

I always thought the insulation was for noise dampening. Does it do anything else?

Heat insulation. Less heat that gets absorbed by the hood, the longer the paint will last.
As the hood absorbs heat then cools down, it expands and contracts, over time wearing out the structural integrity of the clear coat and paint.
Usually the hood, roof and truck are the first to have the clear coat go bad by UV damage. But if UV is not as issue, then it would only be the hood's paint the goes bad.

My e30 at 256k and still holding stong. My e28 odometer broke at 280k, I drove it for 8 more years with a bad odometer before I junked it.... still had insulation too. They just dont make em like they used to... starting with the e46 really.

A picture of the Dynamat Hoodliner?
    Which I partially have.
    or the OEM 4runner's?
Which I do not have, but want to try, and have.

I have the Dynamat Hoodliner cut and shaped to fit the outer left and right divot? in the hood.
Did not do the inner left/right or the center yet, cause water pooling up, and I am short... can't reach back there...
    DSC_3161-01.jpg

So here is picture of a skewp'd hood (mine)
    DSC_3026-01.jpg

    And 4runner's, without the hoodliner.
    5.jpg
The pin holes seem to match up with the Tacoma's.
The Tacoma has 6 of the 8 required to mount the 4runner's hoodliner.
The only thing that I think may be different, is that the front left/right of the 4runner's hoodliner will come up a little short.
