Anybody made homemade bull bar/grill guard for their Tacoma? I’m in the early stages of planning one and it would be nice to see different designs, mounting ideas etc. Mine is a 98 but that particular part probably is t terribly important.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
The year of the truck only plays into things when buying a bumper.

Since your building your own you can see what your dealing with

    What Ideas do you have??

There are several threads where people have built their own bumpers, or build ones from commercially available DIY "kits".

Search around with the search feature, you'll find them.

The link @Black DOG Lila posted is a great starting point as well.

Yeah that’s what I figured to do was build it around what’s there, just haven’t seen what people have done with them. In high school my welding teacher built one for his Ford ranger and then later on for his Nissan Frontier. They both looked similar but were obviously different. They consisted of a couple steel pipes welded in between two contoured steel sides. Probably was like a 3” pipe and a 2” but I’m not sure and I don’t have pictures of course. I see the two mounting holes in the front of the frame but I’m not sure that is going to provide a sufficient amount of strength. Although I’m sure that’s where the majority of the manufactured grill guards and bull bars get mounted to.

Quite a few use the front tow hook bolts just get longer bolts and put the tow hooks back on .

then removing the crush cans I weld a plate on there with a 12mm 1.25 weld nut that gives you 3 m12 bolts on each side

should be plenty but for real serious winching

Yeah I looked at it tonight and I think that’s a good plan. Probably will do something of the like…
