14 dcsb have a dirt bike carrier and a leer topper. Nice to have all the stuff in the back of the truck but if you need anything out of there when the bike is already loaded..... forget about it.

06 yz250 2 Stroke so it’s not a super heavy bike. Can I put it on a swing out rack....also same deal with a mountain bike rack but I’m not concerned about weight there

    Looking at this one https://www.titanramps.com/swinging...-334119.html?cgid=swinging-hitch&lang=default

    says it can support 250lbs

I wouldn't think it could handle a dirtbike. I'm no engineer but that seems like a lot of different forces on that single pin hinge. is 250lbs the swinging weight limit or just the hitch weight limit?

It does not specify if that is the weight limit or swinging limit. Unfortunately. I had the same thought about that might be too much to ask of it

It literally states it will handle a motorcycle up to 250 lbs so it confuses me as to what the debate is.

My '99 YZ250 was awesome. I miss riding...
    DSCF0827.jpg
I liked the gearing of the YZ a lot more than the CR 250's ('97 and '03) I had.

It would probably work... but note it is going to push out the bike another 8in to a foot reward which means even more load on the hitch and truck. I have a hitch mount for my truck when the bed is full for my WR450... personally no way id use a swing out thing on top of a hitch mount carrier.

Have you considered opening side windows on your topper?

Just want to see if anyone has experience before I put it on there and my bike goes flipping down the highway behind me.

I love my bike and I actually sold it and ended up buying it back and fully rebuilding it last winter. 4C455AC1-26DF-4A21-B623-06E977FC13AD.jpg6C5541E0-88B6-4CC3-A143-EF9FF0E1A3BB.jpg0CA7694B-7EA7-43C6-ABE7-0A01955CB19D.jpg

yeah I have done that but it has sliding windows so it’s a super huge pain in the ass. Like for instance, forgot to put the toolbox in after the bike was on. Had to unload because it wouldn’t fit through the window

If It doesn’t work for the dirt bike I’m sure it will work for me with the bicycle rack. It would have been cool to kill 2 birds with 1 stone though

Ah gotcha. I have seen flip up side windows (like the back window of a topper) but if the item doesnt fit through the window, you are sol haha.

Hows about a lil trailer? I have a small trailer with a dirtbike rail and bunks for my standup jetski. Super easy to tow and much easier to load than a hitch mount and has room up front for even more gear.

I’ll have to look for one. But if I buy one I’ll probably end up just going and getting a smallish enclosed. Just do it one time and be done with it. Or continue to use the hitch mount rack

If it says it will work it probably will. I've never had mine on a swing out but I've used the ones that directly mount to the hitch and I dunno it worked lol.

That's a good thing because you'd be breaking it's specified weight capacity.

I would be a little hesitant to put a bike on that. Bicycle yes, but there is no way I would put anything that came close to the max weight that's designed to carry.

Personally I would put the YZ250 in the bed.

I have no problem with the carrier itself. Been using one for a year since I bought the bike back. It’s the swing I’m concerned about BF1E83C4-E97F-4E2F-91E0-EC8EB64F51CE.jpg

The 1st thing I noticed about that swingout was the price. That seems awfully cheap for something that needs to do what you want it to do. I would use it for bicycles, but don't think I would trust it for a motorcycle.

Nope, that's definitely not me. I can ride fast AF but flying - no I'll leave that for the airplanes. Lmao

I gotta be missing something... I'm still confused on what the debate is about. The piece has a weight rating, your bike is well under the weight rating... ??? I'm sure it's me that's missing something because there is a debate occurring... solve the whole debate and just don't install blocks and spacers and go with the most expensive option available.

Why do you think the weight rating exists?

I wouldn’t say well under the weight. It’s 227lbs. And add the weight of the rack on top of that and I’ll pretty much be at the 250 or above

The dry weight on the bike looks like around 227#s. I'd be a bit worried about that swing out bouncing around if you get off the pavement and I'd be concerned about the hinge when it's swung out. When I carried my DRZ on the back of my truck I would actually strap it leaning out slightly just as extra insurance against the handbar being able to strike the rear window on the shell, and I had a heavy duty steel carrier that had almost no movement. For that price I doubt you're getting a heavy duty spindle, much less a tapered one with bearings that's going to last.

Also, manufacturer claimed ratings are often BS. After all, Tacoma's have a 6500lb tow rating. The swingout manufacturer is not going to buy you a new bike because you loaded the swing out with 249 lbs and it broke on the AlCan highway.
