I found a couple threads on this but aside from jokes about snakes I didn't see any concrete answers.

I noticed while my truck is idling there's a sound like a bad tire leak that seems to be coming from the area near the gas tank. Checked my tires but pressure is fine. No change in performance, no dash lights, just a hiss.

Is this normal? I just hit 1,000 miles.

    Its normal
    Evaporative system/ emissions control.
As temperature changes it affects the gas. Contracts as it get cold and expands when warmer.

Thanks. Temps did drop like 20 degrees today so that makes sense.

Toyota just issued a recall for 2018 Tacoma related to brake master cylinder. Issue is internal leaking of master cylinder. I believe this could lead to damaging the brake booster which is vacuum operated and probably the source of the hiss. Have an appointment to get mine fixed this week. Will update after to report on the hissing noise.

Not all Tacoma's have a Vacuum brake booster, but anyways the hissing noise back by the tank is normal.

It's normal. I first heard this late last year when I got off my motorcycle and parked it at work. I was freaking out and done a Google search and realised that it's normal and why it's happening, and then it all made sense.
