How are the Hikari LED bulbs in the 3rd gen tacoma projector housing? How's the throw? And the cut off?

People that have them.. Do you feel it blinds oncoming traffic?

    Thanks

Buried in the end of this thread, people swear by them.

However any LED in a halogen housing is going to suffer significant performance losses, especially in distance throw and beam saturation. You may get significant shift to near field illumination, which makes people not realize they have lost distance illumination.

In the 3rd gen low beam projector, you won't blind anyone as the projector cut off shield will control glare.

I did on the H4 version, it is buried in that thread. They were terrible, with significant losses in performance, beam saturation and distance projection as every other LED in a halogen has been. People claim the new design of the H11 is different. I'm extremely doubtful.

I have the new H11 version sitting on my work bench, they will be tested in a 3rd gen headlight technology comparison thread. But presently trying to wrap up what is likely the largest and most comprehensive fog/pod review on the internet. Taking way longer than I thought it would with skyrocketing costs.

I was going to buy the hikari lights but I'll have to hold off until your comprehensive review. Do you have a timeline?

I’d hate to over promise and underdeliver on timeline. I’m swamped with projects that I don’t have enough time for. Currently repainting the interior of the entire house including trim work and redoing all the electrical outlets and switches, none of which was my idea. I’d roughly speculate a month out depending on coordinating with a local 3rd Gen.

I just put some in last night (9600 lumens) and definitely can tell the throw is far less than the standard stock bulb. Significantly less that I noticed the fogs being much brighter.

I'll try to post pictures later of the cutoff and throw.

Their lumen rating is laughable. Stock H11s are about 1300 lumens. Even citing 'raw lumen' for the LEDs and taking a 50% hit in conversion to actual lumens, according to their numbers it should be near 4x brighter than stock. But it is no where close.

Yeah definitely nowhere near the brightness I expected.

Really... Wow that's not what I expected. I thought at the least the throw would be similar to the the stock halogen bulbs. But to say they are worse hmmm... I'm hearing mixed reviews

You have the older cree ones or the Phillips ones

I do have the CREE ones but I also have HIDs on my other car, and am pretty picky when it comes to lighting since the rains here in Florida make visibility terrible so good lighting is important to me. I drove my car with the hids this morning and could easily tell the throw goes out a few hundred feet. Compared to the led bulbs maybe 50 feet of good light. But a few shots of the LED bulbs.

I have some Diode Dynamic yellow H11 LEDs on my stock fogs. Ive got to say the throw more than decent. I’m constantly get flashed from oncoming drivers 100’ away. Just drove back from Florida in 6 hrs rain. One trucker went so far to pass me then throw on his super bright led rear facing work lights and blasted in my face just to let me know my fogs annoyed the hell out of him. Not saying I’m proud or anything but DD is the shit.

You should aim your fogs properly. Your fogs should never be even remotely close to high enough to blind drivers regardless of what bulb is in them. That's just idiotic.

It isn’t because they are bright. It is because you messed them up by putting in incompatible bulbs and now blind everyone with glare due to your loss of cut off. No one should be blinded by your fogs.

Hm.. I wonder if there are significant differences between the Cree and phillips bulbs.

I’ve got the Philips. I’ve given it some thought and think I’ll be taking lux readings at a further distance than previously in the past, to better test distance projection.

I'm just going to pull the trigger. I hear people swear by them and I'm sure they are better than the oem halogens. I'll provide a recap as well

Here is a wall shot of the H4 version (right), against my brighter than stock halogens (left). People claim the 'new' H11 one is better.
