Am considering putting highway tires on my '17 OR. About the only OR use I see is at construction sites. No rock crawling. Nothing extreme. Typically, just some mild mud. Occasionally, it gets a bit deep. Other than that, maybe some slick grass at times or a gravel road. Honestly, my biggest threat of ever getting stuck would be snow/ice.

I purchased the OR as I had to go with Sport or OR for the other options I wanted, and prices being the same at the time.... I figure the OR was a better investment.

My thinking is I can likely lower the noise level some & grab a bit better mileage, as I am seeing a lot of turnpike use, but still have some pretty nice capabilities of getting out of 'questionable' spots having the rear lockers & MTS.

    Questions....

Has anyone else done this? How have things worked out for you?

    None, yet
I would get another set of wheels and mount more road friendly tires on them. That way if you want to go have some fun just throw the off road wheels/tires back on.

The stock tires are pretty much a street tire. The Offroad is 99% a SR with a few goodies. Sounds like a good choice for you to get something that fits your needs. Kudos for being honest with yourself.

Oh wait this is Tacoma World. Up size those tires. Get the most aggressive tread you can find.

Buy tires which suit your purposes, not what others think you should have.

The stock OR tires are pretty nice imo. They last a good while and have good traction for when you need. My theory is this. If there was a tire that got more MPG then Toyota would have used them because that number on the sticker sells trucks.

BTW, what are the standard range of stock tires? I bought used and it had Goodyear Wrangler Kevlar belted...which I have seen for $250 ea roughly, pricey for stock tires. Could these have been stock or post-purchase upgrade?

I love my K02's. My truck see a lot of interstate use since I live in FL and my Wife works in N.J. and they perform great for me on road as well as off road.

Michelin Defender MS are the tires you are looking for. I may switch these onto my OR for same reasons. Low rolling resistance should get you an additional 1 MPG.

For street use, get the Super Swamper TSLs instead of the Boggers.

Might consider mounting that chin spoiler (not sure if it fits in front of the skid plate) but it can help improve mpg if you don't do any off roading.

The stock tires aren't highway-y enough for you?

These are the stock tires on the Limited and would be an excellent choice. They are quiet, light, and perform well in most conditions.
Unfortunately, they don’t meet the appearance criteria of most of us.

I’ve posted this pic before, but I run street tires because I’m cheap and refuse to replace a perfectly good tire just for looks. Ha! I will be honest, I plan on running an off road tire when these are done, but I am not into looks so much to swap them out. But you are 100% correct. Most swap them out for looks (like I will be doing) more so than function.

Run your stockers until they wear out, get Michelins.

Yep, LTX M/S 2 for the win.
We have 8 trucks f150-f350s all running the LTX MS 2. The very best value in milage vs. Performance.
