You might want to get the Fuel Injectors checked.

My truck had shitty gas mileage as well, 12L/100 km and after getting the injectors replaced (Under Warranty) the gas mileage is now 7.2L/100km.

I get about 26mpg( according to computer) I use sport mode on freeway. Mine is a 2wd tho but it does get better gas mileage than my previous xrunner.

I will let you boys know in a week or two whether it is Bull Shit or not, been logging the mileage on Fuelly since I bought the truck new in 2015 and I can tell you the following:

    • The Shop Foreman who drove the truck for a week to isolate the issue said it was sucking back way to much fuel (12L/100k).
    • Since it came back from having the new injectors installed it is at 7.2L/100k.
    • I am now using Chevron vs. Costco Gas.
    • I have not filled up since I got it back about 8 days ago, when I fill up next and enter the data onto Fuelly I will know what improvement Fuelly says I am having.
    • Right now all I can tell you is what the onboard computer says I am getting and it says I have gone from 12L/100k to 7.2L/100k. I know the onboard computer is not accurate, but, for comparison purposes it is showing a dramatic improvement in fuel economy and I can tell you I am making less trips to the gas station.
    • I live in BC, nothing is down hill...

Just letting you know that it is impossible. I've been driving toyota trucks for 15 years. Best i've ever got is 9.7 L/100km in my old 3.4 4runner. 12l/100km is normal. anything better is good. getting under 10L/100km is during special conditions only (hot weather, downhill or flat only, cruise control, no A/C, etc.). Sorry but your foreman is nuts.

Thanks for your opinion, I will let the Data decide, I have been driving Toyota's for 18 years and this new Tacoma "had" shitty mileage, my buddies 2015 was way better.

I am just telling the OP what the onboard computer on my truck is telling me the mileage has improved by after the injectors were replaced (all 6), and as I log fuel ups on Fuelly the data will provide the proof of what the mileage has "actually" improved by, unless of course, Fuelly is "nuts" as well.

I am not suggesting his injectors are faulty, just sharing my experience and observations.

Not suggesting my mileage is as good as the computer says it is but it is definitely better than it was and only after logging several fuel ups on Fuelly will I know how much better.

I assume that you know that driving habits, gas quality, winter gas vs. summer gas mix, weather conditions, traffic patterns all affect gas mileage, and I assume you have driven in both BC and Ontario to see how these factors affect gas mileage in these totally different environments.

I have driven in both Provinces in all kinds of weather for extended periods so I can speak about the differences.

I assume that you have dealt with the Chief Mechanic at the Dealership I go to to make the determination he is "nuts" just because he says my truck was sucking back way more fuel that it should after he drove it for a week to diagnose why it was missing but throwing no codes?

I think the "sweet spot" (the speed at which when exceeded, your gas mileage starts dropping) is around 65MPH. If you happen to be traveling on a highway at slower than 65MPH, you should get pretty good gas mileage. If you start going faster than that, economy will drop.

I noticed when towing my camper in January, I'd average about 15MPG, but I had one tank in Louisiana, where I had to drive slower due to road conditions, and hit 17.5MPG. A couple months after picking the truck up, I drove it from Austin to South Padre and averaged 21.7MPG for the entire trip (not towing anything).

I went with the 4x4 so I wouldn't have to worry about it.

me too. I try to keep her around 95+mph though at 89 they seem to tailgate me. Thats the sweetspot for me to acheive 13mpg

Not saying you're wrong, it makes sense that cruise control can't readread terrain and make adjustments like a human but I do wonder what the result would be if someone were to run the same stretch of road with cruise control and without it. Would it actually be more efficient to sacrifice some speed in some places only to have to use power to gain that speed back later, or is it more efficient to get up to speed once and maintain it so you don't have to accelerate again?

Yeah, well I've been driving Toyota's for 41 years, a chevette and a yugo too. I used to smash my beater corollas into the guardrails just to see the sparks fly and how long it would take to pop a tire.
The taco turns 2000 Rs @78 mph. getting 16.6 mpg. with the cruz on thats pretty good for any off road truck.

You should look at getting the @OVTune flash tuner. I've got a 6" lift with 34's and with the new 1.03 update my truck will pull small hills in 6th and bigger ones in 5th depending on the wind. I ran back and forth to Oregon a few times and it was miserable when the truck would sit in 4th doing 70 because of wind. With the tune the truck is a lot more aggressive at low speeds but nothing a soft foot can't fix and at highway speeds it holds gears very well. When my truck is warmed up, I see 19mpg on the highway doing 65, when it's cold and on my 15 mile drive to work doing 55 I see about 17. Well worth the investment though!

    Stock all the way
I got better in city than on higways. Usually in 19 to 21, on highway I never exceed 17. I drove within the speed limit or 5 over. But recently it getting better. The very first time it achieved 20. All stock except Bakflip fiberglass. I don't know if the trd air filter has to do with that, but I notice it getting better since I installed it. I ran E87 on fuel. Some said roof rack is also a mpg killer. I thought I'm was going to trade it because it keep doing shift searching over a small hill. But I'm happy now, or maybe I just used to it.
