Hey guys, i need to replace my High pressure DI fuel pump gasket as it's leaking pretty bad. Ended up getting a gasket off the internet as my dealership couldn't seem to get one in... They also wanted 3.5 hours to replace and it sure doesn't see that bad looking at it.

Just wondering if anyone has the proper procedure on swapping this gasket out? I'd just tackle it myself if i had something to go over first.

    Thanks, Db

    It's not 3.5 lol.

Big thing is, assume the line has pressure in it, so crack the line with glove and eye protection.

It will not have pressure as long as the truck isn't running, which is a duh moment.

It simply unbolts, pay attention to the roller bearing orientation, but it can't be installed backwards.

    I'll go by memory

    1 disconnect battery
2 crack lines to relieve pressure
3 remove harness and line brackets, one is attached to the return line
4 then remove the pressure line entirely
5 unbolt fuel pump, the bolts are quite tight so be sure to have a good socket on them

    reverse

Thanks Bishop, seems pretty damn easy. Thoughts on needing to torque anything? Also do i need to lube the rubber gasket to keep it from drying out at all?

No lube, and torque is 19ft lbs on the main bolts, most people don't have a torque wrench for that. Basically snug. Tighter than a spark plug as a reference.

Don't go crazy on the 17mm fuel lines, but it doesn't hurt to re-tighten them after.

Swapped it out in like 30minutes… crazy they wanted 3.5hrs. I was amazed how dirty the indent where the gasket sits was. Sandy n dirty, so cleaned out well and reinstalled. Everything seems good after couple good drives today.
Thoughts on why there’d be sandy mess in there? Motor has been out twice already under warranty due to leak on front of motor, timing chain area if I remember correctly . But they said they’d never had to of removed that at all.

Good info, thanks Bishop. You never know when you’ll end up needing something like this.

Hey I'm curious where you found the gasket online? I have the same issue and cannot find the High Pressure DI fuel pump gasket anywhere!

Doesn't Toyota have a new 10-year repair cost free program for the leaking High Pressure fuel pump? I'm sure someone will come by with that information.
Or perhaps you are one of those folks like me that never wants to take anything to the dealer.

I've posted in a few "hard start" type threads, trying not to revive old and dead ones, but haven't gotten much feedback. Glad to see this thread is active regarding the hpfp. Aside from being noisy, would a bad high pressure fuel pump lead to a hard start/stumble start? I'd assume the pump "losing its prime" could give me the issues I'm having. Here's a thread with videos of my exact symptoms:
