Hey everyone, I am looking for a very high output alternator for a 3rd gen Tacoma. Looking for something above the 350 amp range. I am making a very powerful car stereo system for my Tacoma. I already have 5 subwoofers pushing 1000 watts rms. With my amps being capable of drawing 1600 watts rms. I am planning an upgrade on my door speakers, and possibly the subwoofers as well. Looking to be pushing around 3200 watts rms minimum. That would be a draw of 270 amps from the battery at rms not peak. Peak amp draw could be around 600 amps. Plus I have my Light bar and planning on getting a winch.

I will post some photos of the subwoofer setup in a bit. I have a 2017 TRD off-road short bed double cab. All subwoofers are hidden away behind and under the rear seats. All work was done by me.

Had 4000 rms in my old frontier. Stock alt with 2 batteries and big 3. No dimming and loud as hell. Had a pair of sundown x10"s in a ported box and an active front stage on about 600 rms. I would do the big 3 and take it from there

I think a better question is what amps are you using? Wattage ratings are very deceptive and if your not paying a ton of money the ratings are straight up lies.

Big three refer to the big three primary current carrying conductor wires of the electrical system:

Alternator to battery, battery to starter starter to ground.

Big three upgrade is a common car audio phrase but it benefits all systems by having better stronger electron paths.

Technically there's more on the Tacoma, in addition to those listed there's also frame to body, battery to primary fuse box.

Original harness vs upgraded "big three" harness, each one of those wires is larger than the original 3 combined.

The amps I am using are the Rockford Fosgate P500X2 and the Skar Audio RP800-1D. The Skar amp is capable of over 800 watts rms at 1 ohm and the Rockford can push around 370 watts rms to each channel at 2 ohm, so around 740 watts total for the Rockford.

Thanks, that's super helpful. Is that a pre-built harness anyone can buy or is it custom?

    I’m in Erie Colorado.

Ill have to look into the big 3, seems like a less expensive route.

A little of both, I'm not sure if it's exactly the same for a 3rd gen as I have a 2nd but I suspect it would work @deanosaurus makes them he has a thread about it too. They come as individual wires you have to install and loom them together as you see fit. Great quality cables very happy with the kit.

My hope is by the time I’m in my 60s-70s technology will have advanced enough so they can create hearing aides that will solve my hearing problems.

But I listen around 110-120 db right now for extended periods of time, so I will most definitely have hearing problems.
