High end head unit wanted, Pioneer DEH-80PRS?

Hey, wanted to get you guys' opinion on a head unit. I want a bit more fidelity out of my system, and I think I want to upgrade my head unit to something with a bit more bells and whistles than my Clarion VX404. Also, I can't see the Clarion in the sun very well, and that bugs me.

Anyway, I was thinking about going with a Pioneer DEH-80PRS. But it's been out for like 5 years now from what I can tell, and it's probably due for a refresh soon. It also doesn't play FLAC, my Clarion does. This is a deal breaker for me at this time.

So does anyone know if Pioneer will be releasing the sucessor to the DEH-80PRS soon?

 

Even if they do, no guarantee it'll support FLAC. Not much does. I just use WAV lossless from USB sticks (not with a PRS). It appears to be more widely supported.

80PRS only supports 4 channels for DSP/PEQ too, right? It'd work for a passive front stage & subwoofer though.

Edit, maybe I'm talking out my butt. Specs say it's 3 way. So 3 channels each side? Sweet upgrade either way. And for $200ish, how can you go wrong? And space for something else.

 

It's got 3 seperate DSPs for Front/Rear/Sub, or however you want to network it. It's so sweet, and nothing for 300 bucks comes close to its awsomeness

 

I recall reading just yesterday that these were being had for a bit over $200 from Jet. I'd like to install one myself if I can find a good double din to 2x single din adapter for this truck & tuck a shortwave up under it.

 

This is the adapter I've been looking at. Not sure what the options are for a gen1....

I have an 80PRS and love it. I run it three way active with sub, mid, and tweet.

I haven't read of Pioneer working on a successor. But then again, I haven't been on the audio forums lately.
