What is a good spot to hide a compact/full size handgun in a Tacoma. I want to be able to reach it while in the drivers seat.

Should fit in the center console.
Or strap on a shoulder holster.

Your truck is not a holster.

That being said, my employer doesn't allow firearms in the building. A center console safe is your best bet honestly. I travel to work with it on my hip, then transfer it to my console before leaving my truck.

When not @ work, I use an IWB @ 3 o'clock and am just fine and comfortable. Taken plenty of 6 hour drives and been comfortable even with a full frame weapon on my hip.

I'm still trying to figure out how to conceal an AR pistol

Getting a kick out of some of these answers, and surprised this question is being asked, but I’ve had good luck using a magnetic mount under the steering wheel. It’ll hold most single stack pistols pretty secure. A stack and a half, or double stack pistol, not so much. Actually reminds me I need to order another one for the new Tacoma……

I agree with those who have correctly stated your truck is not a holster. That said, I also recognize there are situations where carrying a handgun on your person is not an option (such as stopping by a school for a teacher meeting or something).

In those situations, I think a center console safe is a good option.

When I had my second Gen, I always felt it would’ve been an interesting project to make a locking storage compartment where the “coin tray” was (where the parking brake handle is on standard shifts). A locking color matched panel there would’ve given plenty of room to stash a small handgun.

Yes, maybe I’ve seen too many James Bond movies, but a locked “secret panel” that isn’t immediately obvious to the casual thief (like a console safe would be) might be the most secure option.

I’m using a combination of DesertDoesIts Seat risers and multi mount panel with a custom bent piece of metal that contours to my holster.

I am a firearm owner and enjoy shooting them, mostly targets, clay, etc... However, I am glad I live in area I do not need to have a gun readily available, especially hidden in my car.

Don't worry, home defense is all set. I just I have no need for a fire arm in the truck nor very well trained for that. I am one who trains for emergencies so it is also muscle memory (fire fighting, EMS, etc..) Kinda scares me MANY untrained folks have guns between there legs and without proper training are most likely shit shots or easily excitable (Chicago)

95% of the time I CC but for those times when I can't I just use my holster mounted to side molle panel.

Having home protection, but no protection while mobile, is a confused argument IMO.

Same reasoning applies to both situations and statistically, you’d likely need self protection while out and about more than at home.

    Just something to contemplate.

I’d also disagree and say most folks carrying a firearm legally are decently trained (though plenty aren’t) and carry with respect for the responsibility involved of doing so. People who possess or carry illegally (Chicago example maybe) are already a problem by default and not necessarily what’s being discussed when people talk about carrying for protection.

I personally prefer to keep my weapon holstered and on my person at all times, even when I am in the truck. But I do have one of those magnetic mounts that is attached to the side of the lower console area kinda near my right knee. Not really hidden but definitely out of plain sight. And God forbid I ever should need my weapon it is right there.
