I'm not quite certain how to explain this but under low engine speed acceleration, part throttle up to WoT, I've noticed that keep getting a split second loss of power. It almost feels like one or more cylinders fails to fire or something. There's no engine codes or idiot lights, no backfire, to extra noise from the exhaust from unburned fuel detonating in the manifold, and no sound from the engine itself that I might associate with knock. Has anyone else noticed this behavior? If so, what is it and is it something I can fix?

I'm certain that there is already a thread that would enlighten me to the answers to these questions but since I don't know what's wrong it's tough to search for the fix.

    EDIT: This truck is a Manual, 2020 TRD-OR V6

Idk, my 2020 v6 auto will move right out no matter where the go petal is pushed. A buddies 2019 trd v6 auto was just lazy all around in comparison. Whatever it is this trucks don't all run the same.

Have you tried it with the ECT POWER button on?

Yeah, I assume that the tune and shift points are adjusted year to year. Fortunately I have a manual so I know it isn't something going on in the transmission. I did fill up with 89 octane last night instead of the 87 octane I usually buy and I feel like it is running a bit better, but that could easily be confirmation bias.

That’s odd. I haven’t experienced that although I have experienced a whole bunch of other acceleration issues. I got the KDMaxx tune and that fixed everything.

Maybe look into that? The guys on that thread may be able to tell you if it’s something a tune would fix.

I can accept that a tune might fix it, I just wish I knew what was being fixed by the tune that is wrong in the stock tune. I probably won't be getting a tune though since I will need to sell the truck in a few months when I move to Hawaii.

Mine does it once in a while too. I’m tuned. First on Premium gas, now tuned for 87. OV. Still happens.

I have yet to get the fuel pump recall done, curious if that would help and/or if KDMax Pro would make it disappear.

It’s just one of the many quirks I put up with to drive a 3rd gen.

Hmm, I wouldn't expect a fuel pump to do that unless it was at high RPM and the pump just couldn't keep up. Any other possibilities I can think of should throw an engine code, I would think.

Can you think of some good search terms for this behavior that might lead me down a good google path of enlightenment?

Throttle hesitation but that will take you down the wrong rabbit hole. Honestly mine didn't really do it until winter gas hit the pumps last fall. That's why I switched to the 87 tune, thought I was getting crap premium. (That and the cost savings, lol). I also don't think all trucks do it.

It has bothered me a while but like I said, I live with it. It's way better tuned but my gut is something is in the fuel mapping, OV tuned or not, that persists in some Tacomas more than others that is exacerbated by the butane added to winter blends. But that comes straight outta my ass. The fuel pump that goes bad is low pressure (we have 2) and I'm not sure what role it plays - if any at all - with occasionally acting up.

Shellshock does my tuning and we jawed about it - he has experienced the same thing with his truck.

I also have in show up in the 3 - 4 shift as well. Truck kind of falls on it's face briefly. But it's very unpredictable other than the more into the throttle I am the less likely it is to stumble. If I drive the truck like I stole it she responds and goes. When I'm conservative is when this stuff happens.

3 gear TC partial lock kicks in and you see a drop of 200 RPM's. Same with 4th.
    Get a better tune

Looking more at the Wiki page for the motor (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_GR_engine#2GR-FKS) , I wonder if it's actually something with either the VVT or the switch from port injection to direct injection as the motor works its way up through the rev range under different throttle positions.

'Tis manual. As stated earlier, a tune might fix it but I'd still like to know what's going on.

lol, I probably should've made that more clear in my original post.
