I'm getting the itch to continue my stereo system upgrade.

    I've got 2 PH15s and plan to run 3 way active @100w/channel.

Of the 3 brands listed in the title, I'm leaning towards Hertz, but would like some of your opinions as being able to audition these brands isn't going to well. Shops around here all have the lower systems in the lines on the sound boards.

I'm looking to build an SQ system with tight bass and highs on the brighter side.

I’ve had a Hertz 2-way Deici HSK 165 setup and really liked it. Not sure why, but one mid bass blew, and it was pricey to replace. But fo sound, some of the nicest sound I’ve ever had. Smooth highs, not too bright IMO, and tight mid bass. Definitely well-rounded.

Also had the Alpine Type-R 6.5. Honestly, not terribly impressed. That’s why I switched them out after a year and went to the Hertz.

    Anecdotal I know, as you’re eyeing a 3-way setup, but that’s what I’ve got.

When I did the system in my tC I threw in carbon Focals and they are fantastic (3-way component front, 2-way coaxial rear). Will be doing the same setup in the Taco when the time comes. For me it was between them and JL, and side by side I preferred the Focal sound. Still a big fan of JL subs though.

i can't comment on the others, but that's because i have run Focals for so long i have no need to change. i'm on K2P's coax in the front running 300W per side, fronts only. i was also looking for SQ and punch, so i left out the rears and added a JL 13TW5 sealed. for me the SQ and punch are good. my system is pretty basic (i don't like DSP or any of that) so there's still plenty of room for improvement if you want to spend time dialing things in.

Having been poisoned by some amazing systems, both home and car, there will definitely be tuning.

i run hertz mille legend all active 2 way, sounds good to me in my 4runner, ran focal k2p all active, sounds good in the tacoma since the speakers are from my 4runner. heard the focal utopia setup 3 way, tweeter and mid in a pillar, 8 inch midwoofer in doors, that sounded really unbelievable. cant go wrong with either brand, focal flax series are good, then es (better), then utopia m(best) , depends on how you want to set up, dsp is recommended. you can go from mild to wild. also theres other brands out there too, morel, dynaudio, audiofrog, hybrid audio technology, and so much more.
