    Brooks76Guys I need help figuring out what degree axle shims i need by this measurements. I’ve read every forum on TW and I’m still having problems. I have a 1.5” add a leaf in the back and I’ve installed 2 degree shims but no luck.
    Done CB drop and removed, ECGS bushing has been done too.
    I know this is a common thread but I’m any input would greatly be appreciated.D23F7E72-3E9B-42E5-AB7C-F3A2DDF0AD52.jpg

    IIRC you want the two drive shafts to be off by 1° or less (but not perfectly 0°) and you want the yoke on the rear diff to be parallel (off by 0° or as close as possible) with the yoke on the transfer case

    Ok, I know my transfer case isn’t at 0, I believe it’s 3.3 degrees. I’ll remeasure it when I get home. I was hoping to get the closest measurement to the front shaft at the CB and and at the pinon yoke close to the same measurements to cancel out the vibes… hoping shims will resolve it. Just what degree shim is needed is what’s confusing me…

    If you measured your slopes correctly, your working angles are:
    A=5.8^
    B=2^
    C=-3.1v

    C is expressed as a negative because it is a upward working angle.

    There are 4 ways to equalize a two-piece shafts with 3 standard u-joints:
    1.
    A=0
    B=C

    2.
    C=0
    A=B

    3.
    B=0
    A=C

    4.
    A+B+C=0

    You are closest to method 4.

    So...
    (5.8)+(2)+(-3.1)=4.7

    You need a 4.7 degree shim installed so as to increase the working angle at C.

    This is if you measured all your slopes correctly based off the same common zero and your zero was done correctly.

    You are actually measuring slopes; working angles are derived from differences in slopes.

    In the diagram, the red represents a square placed on the t.case and pinion flanges.
    The blue represents the level and measurements needed.
    Zero on the bottom of the square at the t.case flange.
    Take measurements with the level facing the same way(front/rear) at each location.

    I believe I measured them correctly, I’ve measured them 10 different ways and most are about the same reading…
    By reading all the forums on here there is so many different ways to do this, and I would’ve thought I would need more than a 3 degree shim with a 1.5” lift… but I guess all Tacoma’s are different

    Ok I’ll try that tonight and see what my measurements are.
    Thank you! Great information!

    I believe speck for TRD OR is -1.5 to +3.5 or 4.5. So either 3 or 4 degree shims should work fine.

    We'll get you squared away...
    I agree with you though, most of the threads on the subject here, are convoluted.

    You don’t want the transfer case at 0, that is what it is. You want to zero your level on the transfer case and use that

    You guys are awesome! Thank you for all the input. I’ve had a many late nights reading forums, calculating measurements and taking parts in and out…
    I’ll dive into this when I get home and remeasure everything and see what I got

    Did I measure this correctly? Pulling my hair out trying to understand… sorry for the revival just super frustrated. 6.4 degrees seems like too much. I do have a 3 degree shim in right now. Thanks for any input
