Air conditioner in 2012 has been getting weaker last couple years. Not blowing as hard it seems. I would have to drive almost 3 hours with the AC at max blowing high to get cold enough to make me want to turn it down. Finally last week, the high speed on the blower STOPPED working. A Google search led me here and I'm seeing when resistors go out people are left with high speed only working. With mine, only high speed stopped and the others are fine. Will the resistor cause my problem?
I'm also wondering why my AC is blowing from the defrost vents when I have it set to front vents only. It causes annoying condensation and I'm THINKING because my air flow is being split, that this is the reason why my air has been seeming weak. My truck didn't do this.new, it only started last summer.

In short, will a resistor cause a loss of only high blower speed? And why is my air flow not going to the correct vents?

Looks like you have a bad blend door actuator. You will likely need to replace it along with your resistor and the pigtail that plugs into it.

might need a top off on your R134, the blower problem sounds like a resistor...

I also need to add that when I turn the knob to select the other vent settings, the air is redirected and changes as it should. It also seems to change between outside and recirculate as it should also.

I could be wrong, I know I dont know a lot about AC systems but adding more R134 doesn't seem to fit. The AC is blowing cold, it's just not blowing very hard.... even when the blower high speed was working.

possible, my Nissan titan was brand new and AC never really was cold from the start. I decided to check the pressures, bout a top off can, and guess what it was a the bottom of the green band for the temp. I topped it off above the green band and talk about work! it froze you out in no time. Also...may not be the issue but its easy to check.

Look for an obstruction in the air path, check the cabin filter.

Take the blend door servo off and turn the hinge, make sure it has its full range of movement. The servo motor itself can break easily, it may be broken already

Find the threads around here that describe the blower motor/resistor/ harness repairs

Get some manifold gauges on the a/c system and make sure its operating correctly

If the blower doesn't work on high, the problem is not the resistor. On a properly working truck, you can take the resistor out and throw it in the wood chipper and the fan will still blow on high.

Go buy a Mcdonalds breakfast. When you're done, use the plastic knife to pop out the heater/AC control panel. Unplug the fan switch connector and look for burnt terminals.

Where do I find out about these resistors? I have the problem where the fan only blows on high!

    *** UPDATE.

I found the info about the resistor fix on another thread here. My plug to the resistor pack was just slightly discolored and disconnecting/reconnecting actually made things work. I went ahead adn bought a new (updated) resistor pack and pigtail off Amazon for $20. I cut and soldered the new pigtail but the kit came with crimp connectors. The new resistor pack looks a lot more solid state then the factory on. Fairly easy to install except getting that back screw out and back in. Hopefully I will not need to do this ever again!

You was correct Sir! Thanks for that! Now I need to find a control panel and then find out if the pin in wire harness is toast as well....

I bought a kit at AutoZone that was a resistor, pigtail connector and butt slices for under $30. and I haven't had in issue since. Took about 30 minutes. Stagger the butt splices so the harness doesn't look like a snake with a fresh kill in it.
There are several threads on this...

Just found a control panel on Ebay for 72 bucks from a junk yard in the north east somewhere.... I checked the prices with Toyota sites (part number 55900-04070 for those that have this problem in the future) and of course Toyota is high as giraffe coochie. Cheapest I found new from Toyota was 300 range.

Now I'm scared as hell my wire harness will have to be replaced too.... anyone have any tips with this? Can a burned out pin be repaired? Should I consider cutting off and splicing in another plug?

Ouch! Look at the face of the plug where it inserts, there's a number. It's friggen tiny, but there's a number on it.
You can more than likely buy the connector body and repair wires to fix it.
That number will make it easier for them to ID it in the diagram.

Where would I find that at? At a Toyota dealer? Autozone?

The connector body is a dealer item afaik.
