Looking for help on my 2009 Tacoma TRD Off Road. 155000 kms bought used cpl years ago.
New to forum and posting. Couldn't pin point issue from searching

Noise is a howling and or slight squeak. Will change with RPM
Fan will turn easily when cold
Belt has some wear/tear but overall seems ok. Any wet spots seen is wd40
    Fluild levels checked
    Video as follows
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Zk9VTPGeDCQ

I was hoping video would express noise better

Looking to do this fix myself

Not sure if it's an idler pulley or fan clutch ?

    Any help or thoughts appreciated.

Sounds more like a pulley to me also.

sounds like my idler after a weekend of mudding.

Grab and jiggle the idlers to see if they feel loose.

    Idlers feel secure.
The belt does show wear and tear so going to replace that for sure. I'm thinuking it's idler pulley, just don't want to be replacing one and it's not that one or doing them all when not needed.
    Thanks for feedback.

Could be dirt in the bearings. Idilers and belt are pretty cheap.

I buy the full kit from gates. Saves a little money from buying individually.

I'm thinking to do belt, idler and possibly pulleys myself. Read it's not too much of a job.
Want to get upper and lower ball joints done by my mechanic friend, might just get him to do all at once

Any experience on doing the belt/pulley ? I don't want to take apart the fan and shroud ing

They're easy. The tensioner is easy to get to from underneath.

My Idilers and belt took maybe an hour. Don't remember.

Problem fixed. After I removed belt I spun an idler that sits between the power steering and drive clutch. Could hear it when spun freely

One issue was Piston ring selling me wrong belt at first, was too long.

    Thanks for replies

I listened to your video, but couldn't really hear it. Did it sound like a growling noise? I have one that seems to match the engine rpm ever since I replaced my alternator.

Mine would match engine speed as well. Would get more with more RPM. Mine sounded like two pieces of metal rubbing ?

Once I removed my belt I could spin by hand all idlers, power steering, alternator etc and easily narrowed it down to one idler.
