Dropped my Tacoma off for an oil change and to have two valve stems replaced. Mechanic calls me and says one of the jr mechanics replaced the fan belt without permission. When I got there he presented me with 3 belts. One of them was bigger than the other two. I didn't pay for the labor, but to not completely cut the relationship I agreed to pay for the belts. Two of them were around $30 and the other about $18-$25. I would like to figure out what belts they were out of curiosity and so I can find out how much the job should cost. If anyone knows I would greatly appreciate it.

Alternator has its own belt and so does ac with power steering if I remember correctly. It’s not all off a single serpentine belt. Did you open your hood and try to match the belts. I can eliminate timing belt since that’s expensive

Yea, definitely not the timing belt. I didn't take the belts with me. I think it is the alternator, a/c, and PS and found the belts for $30 together. I had a feeling the mechanic inflated the belts cost; probably knew I wouldn't pay for the labor and got the money anyways.

I try to look at it as a glass half full. I did notice some low squealing recently. If they called me I would have declined because my daily is a Camry and the truck is used as backup vehicle and trips to the dump and Lowes.

I replaced the three up front belts on my 3.4L 2003 recently. One for alternator, one for power steering, and one for AC. Here are the numbers, descriptions, and prices of the three belts (OEM from Toyota-parts.com)
    900809109083 cooling system, cooling, belts & pulleys, alternator belt 3.4 LITER 1 $0.00 $15.56
    993642087078 cooling system, cooling, belts & pulleys, ac belt 3.4 LITER 1 $0.00 $16.25
    900809112683 cooling system, cooling, belts & pulleys, p/s belt 3.4 LITER 1 $0.00 $13.43
I used to get a high pitch squeal from my belts when I turned on the headlights. I assumed that was because the alternator put more of a load on the belt with the lights on. After I replaced them, the squeak was gone. $90 doesn't sound bad for the belts. I always figure I am going to pay 2X the cost of the part if I buy from a mechanic VS online.

I'm fine with $90, honestly. I just know they inflated the price of the belts to cover it.

You payed 90$ to have 3 belts replaced included parts and material! That’s not bad at all
