A squeak or high-pitched chirtp has recently been bugging me on my daily drives over any sort of bump or twist in the road surface...even at low speed. Check out the short video below of my wife jumping on the running boards. This is front passenger wheel well. The front shocks were replaced August 2023 by Les Schwab at the same time I got new tires. I think maybe it started around then, but I can't be sure. This weekend I took it to the self-service car wash and gave all the suspension and steering components a good spray wash. The squeak was gone on the drive home. But later in the day once everything had dried out, it was back. I think the low pitched groan of the spring is probably normal, its the high-pitched chirp when the suspension recovers that is what bothers me.

Any ideas on which component might be the culprit? I am somewhat new to DIY maintenance, but am trying to chase down the noise and hopefully fix it myself.

I appreciate all your help and expertise, I have learned everything I know about DIY maintenance on this vehicle from this forum! Willing to tolerate any "your mom" or "your wife" jokes about this post so long as you help me find the solution!

Noises like this are incredibly difficult to troubleshoot over the internet. But based on your video and statement that it started after the shock replacement let's start there. In your video (and I could be wrong), it appears the top mount is moving up/down when the truck bounces. I'm not sure that is right and could point towards something loose there, maybe not installed right from the beginning but again very hard to tell. If the noise is gone when things are wet but returns when it dries up, you could get some silicone spray lube and spray a small amount very carefully on each area one-by-one and see when the noise stops. Might want to start there and see what you find. Good luck.

Saw and thought same thing. Check all bushings, front rad support may be giving more flex and creating that metal on metal chirp

    Thanks for your insight everyone.

I took it in to the tire shop where the struts were replaced. They took the strut assemblies off and reinstalled them to make sure they were installed correctly and to correct tightness. They decided they didn't like the way one of them was fastening down, the bolt wouldn't get past a spot on the thread, which was why there was play at the top of the strut assembly in the video. They decided to replace both struts under warranty with new (different model...they put KYB gas-a-just on at first...replacement is Monroe 71371 OESpectrum).

Squeak / chirp is gone for now.

Still learning about all of this. Rear shocks are leaking a bit. Need to decide if I put something nicer back there (I see folks around here are fans of Bilstein 5100s) and let the front Monroes wear out...or put matching rears and let both wear out before upgrading or considering a small lift.
