    Sweet ones.
I have been going back and forth between them and can't make a decision. Just when I make my mind up, I second guess and say "maybe the other is better". So turning to the trusty Tacomaworld to help me decide. I do mostly pavement driving with the occasional weekend back fire roads to get to good camp sites. Planning to get a camper in the next year, so will be doing some light towing with a dirtbike/family packed for camping weekends. Also need the snow tire for Tahoe trips hunting the deep storms during the winter.

I'm going 255 width: Toyo At3 255/80-17 or Cooper At3 255/75-17. The Toyo would be ~0.8" taller which would be sweet, only slightly worried I'd rub a bit on the flaps.

I've got a '17 sport with Dobinson suspension and JBA UCA (~1.5" lifted from stock) and looking to get the TRD 4Runner wheels.

    Any input is appreciated!

I had toyo open country at2 on my 2010 for 55k miles. My only complaint about them is that they are terrible in the rain. I'm in CT and during a summer thunderstorm sometimes it would be a hassle to get moving when sitting at a light on a hill. While In the snow they did great. I recently put on falken wildpeak at3 and love them. Huge difference in the rain. I can't comment on the Coopers though.

I put on 265/70/17 for both companies tires.

Just making sure it was the Toyo at3, that was just released in February of 2020... I heard that the Toyo at2 had some wet road weakness that was addressed in the new compound/tread pattern of the at3.

You are right. At2 vs at3. I hope they addressed the issue as well as they claim. They were bad lol.

I currently have the Cooper AT3 4s on my tacoma. I've had them for about 2 months now. Super quiet, great grip in rain, dry pavement, and on farm roads so far. No complaints. I got them when America's Tire had a $60 rebate on them.

I would just see which one would be the most cost effective for you. I don't think you can go wrong with either tire.

I have the Coopers. I dont notice any tire noise unless they are around 20psi. I'm amazed by the grip offroad, and zero issues on road.

I think what you've ended up with are two really great AT tires, it's going to be personal preference between which are 'better'.

I've had Revo2, Ko2, and now ToyoRT - they've all been excellent tires and I would be hard pressed to come up with any driving differences besides looks for what I need.. For general use and all/terrain pick the ones you like best. The nice thing about tires is they wear out!

Can’t compare the two, I went with Cooper AT3 4S’s. I’m 97% on road but we get so much rain so often wet traction is a high priority for me. The Coopers have proven to be surprisingly quiet on the highway, much improved wet traction over the stock Dunlops, only complaint is a little tendency to follow the road crown.

Only off pavement excursion so far was rock/gravel road. They handled it just fine, kept the truck heading straight and stable at 15-20 mph.

Toyo here. Running 255/80/17 with a 1.5 lift. I did have some rubbing on the mud flaps, but did some trimming and it’s gone. Only had them for about a week, but so far so good.

Loving my Toyo's so far, but have only had them a little over 1.5 wks. They did great last weekend driving in rain and down-pours both in town and on the highway. I would bet they are a little louder than the Cooper's given the more open tread design. I can confidently say the 255/80 is perfect on a lifted Tacoma. I'm so happy I went with this size for my summer tire. The only thing that would concern me if I had a 3rd gen would be the possible need to re-gear, especially if you are planning on towing. Even in my 2nd gen I will keep running a skinny 32" tire during the winter since I pull an enclosed sled trailer with 2 sleds all the time. Like the others have said, I think you've narrowed it down to two tires you can't go wrong with. Good luck.

    Can’t go wrong with either.

currently have Toyo AT III. Grip better on dry pavement than the KO2 they replaced - can’t get them to squeal when cornering like the BFG.

Lots of questions on TW about the depth of tread on the sidewalls. It’s definitely there on the C loads, but the edges are beveled, so appear a little shallower (And less aggressive) than other A/T tires.

I went with Toyo load range E, but won't get to try them out for a couple of weeks. Suspension install first

I currently have Cooper AT3 LT C-load in 265/75/R16. They’ve been great tires, have 45K miles and will get another 5k more easily. If I was staying at this size or if Cooper offered the LT’s or XLT’s in 255/80/R17 I’d buy again.

Since Cooper isn’t offering tires in that size aside from the portly ST Maxx, I’ll be going with the 255/80/R17 Toyo AT3’s once they’re decently available. 53 lbs and very reasonable AT tread. Seems most places offering them can’t actually get them.

TDubber, which tires did you end up going with? I am trying to decide between the Toyo and Cooper AT3's as well. Also looking at the Goodyear TrailRunners but can not make up my mind. Thanks,Rich

    Sweet ones.
I went with the coopers. Unfortunately due to pandemic and new baby I have driven like 500miles on them. Winter will be the true test chasing winter storms.

I also went with the at3 4s cause I could get the 255/75 17s. I like the tall skinny but didn’t want to go full 255/80 and run the risk of rubbing/cutting. I didn’t want to ditch the mud flaps from snow/ice/rocks getting flung up the side. They fit my truck perfect and look sick with the gunmetal grey 4Runner pro wheels.

    good luck!

Looks nice, How is the Highway noise level? Did you get the LT/XLT or Passenger load retaining? Right now I have Goodyear Wrangler Fortitudes all terrain tires and are really quite but I want a more aggressive tread for hunting. I'm torn between Toyo AT3, Discoverer AT3 and GoodYear Trailrunners. Thanks!

I replaced some worn out Costco “all season shit” tires that were on it when I bought the truck. So they’re louder than those, but perfectly acceptable. I went with the regular 4s, I have stiffer suspension and don’t really off road it, just fire roads to camp spots. I have a motorcycle for trails/off roading. I mainly got them for snow traction in the winter and easy riding highway tires. I think they’ll fit the bill perfect.
