    Hi folks,

Been doing a lot of reading about tonneau covers and I think I've come down to the two that I like best. Looking for any and all input about these two tonneau covers and no others (MAYBE ones of a similar design). I want something solid, and I want something that rolls/slides up. Trifold is just not for me.

I'm between the Pace Edwards Switchblade Metal:

    https://paceedwardsdirect.com/p/pace-edwards-switchblade-metal-tonneau-cover/

    and the BAK Revolver X2/X4:

    https://bakflip.com/p/bak-revolver-...V1vFEvkkWcJTzYFXCpw0Li205GrxaLPxoCI5gQAvD_BwE

I'm stumped at which one I would like best. I like the idea of the canister on the PE...but I'm also a bit nervous about routing the water drain for it (rust and otherwise just messing up the bed). I'm also not sure I want that much of the bed taken up. HOWEVER I really like the idea of the cover rolling down and not up...meaning if I NEED to I can hang things over it if they don't quite fit in the bed.

The X2/X4 is a good looking cover...but I'm not sold on something rolling up to the window versus down into the bed. I think it'll get in the way just as much as the canister on the PE, but will leave me with an obstacle if I have to hang things out of my bed such as a long box or something. But maybe I'm just over thinking this?

Price isn't really a concern between these two. I found the PE used on CL at a VERY attractive price. And new the two covers aren't very far off price-wise.

Any and all input on these two covers is appreciated.

    Thank you!

Are you where it freezes? Reason I ask, is I had PE on a truck and the box were cover rolls up in would ice up bad. I would have to remove box cover and pull out a big chunk of ice, so cover would roll up.

It does freeze but it's mostly (95% of time parked) garage kept where most ice and snow melts off. It's probably a minimum 45-50 degrees in there. I didn't think about the PE freezing. I heard similar things about the BAK though...that it wouldn't roll up right when it's cold.

Thanks for the input! It definitely helps

I have a Pace Edwards Jackrabbit (son has one on his Ranger, too). I assume very similar to the Switchblade in function (maybe not??). I like that it can be stopped about every foot along its length...if you don't need it open the entire way - can be locked in that position, too. Not sure if the Revolver can do that???

The Pace Edwards directions were TERRIBLE!!! Had to call the company and talked the the head engineer about the dimensions for installing the rails.....he finally said to just make them a certain distance apart to work properly. I asked him why the instructions didn't just say that to begin with.....he didn't know what to say then.

It is NOT waterproof, especially at the tailgate. Got the front and sides pretty good with caulking but going to redo it again once warm weather gets here. The main issue with the rear is that the rubber piece that runs width-wise and buts up to the tailgate is about 3/8" too narrow on each end. Easy solution for PE to do: leave it a half inch long on each end and installer can easily cut to length needed.

It has also frozen shut a few times, but if I know I will need it to open in the winter, I try to clean it as needed ASAP after a snow or ice storm.

Would I buy it again....probably, but would depend on other new designs.

    Hope this helps.

This definitely helps especially since installation is one of my major concerns. If directions are terrible, I don't want to think about the headache that might happen when I need to drill or expand a drain hole in the bed,

    Thanks so much!!!

    None....yet.
I have the switchblade. I like it alot. Only 2 holes go in the bed, and they're really not noticeable. The only issue I have with it is the gap between it and the tailgate when closed. It's only about 1/2", but rain will get in there (granted, not much). We have rain at about 2-3" per hour sometimes and it has yet to flood the bed. Worst I had was when I backed in up the driveway, so any water that did get in ran toward the cab and i had about an inch of water in the first foot or so if the bed. If its parked where the rear is downhill, it stays bone dry. I really dont miss the room it takes up. I'm a carpenter so I have the bed full of tools all the time....it has saved them from getting wet numerous times.

Just an opinion....I have the Toyota cover so other than that, my only experience is roll up.

With that said, the Pace is really neat and good looking. If I had to make a decision, it would be difficult because I have a friend that has a retractable cover on his Ford and it no longer works fully but it does look great. On the other hand, I think about all things retractable, cords, garage doors, etc. sooner or later, they all break.

Don't get me wrong about the instructions......if you have good common sense, you can figure them out. Drilling the 2 holes was easy - if you have the right king of bits!! If you do buy the PE, I may still have my instructions with the proper width for the rear portion so you could ignore that section. I will look. Worst case scenario, I can measure mine and let you know. I know we have to adjust my son's on his Ranger - it is too wide and allows side to side movement which has caused the cover to come unlatched and slide forward. Would need a shim or two is all.

I just installed the Truxedo Sentry CT which is very similar to the Revolver X4. I went this direction after going back and forth on some of the points you've just mentioned. I work in the city and parallel park everyday, so a short bed was a necessity. I love the look of the Retrax and PE covers and my original idea was to use those with the Yakima Overhaul bars. I just couldn't give up 20% of the 5' bed length.

I installed the BAK Revolver X4 on my '16 SR over a year ago. Its been through a north central Arizona summer and 2' of snow last winter.
Install was straightforward although roll-up joints are stiff when new. No problems with rear visibility or contact with the back glass. Fit and finish are very good and construction is rugged. I haul everything in this truck; from construction materials and landscape gravel to several loads of tree limbs from storm damage...never a problem with the roll-up cover.
The cover cleans up well and the rubber bed seals do a good job keeping rain out and so far lay flat on the bed rails.
Previously had an ARE solid hinged bed cover, it looked nice, but not functional for my use.

    That's a good looking cover!

Thanks everyone for the input! I think I decided on the BAK X4. With the real possibility of snow, I didn't want to deal with having to unclog the canister.

While I rave about it to my friends, it hit a snag when this weekend the South Florida rains hit...it poured.

First, the front of the X4 does a poor job of keeping the rain out especially at the buckhead. Don't understand why the engineers didn't extend this cover two more inches!

Secondly, at watch out for the tailgate plastic when you first go to close it. I did some DIY hack job with a right angle and some washers I had laying around as a stop gap measure. Just wrote to Bak, let's see what they have to say.

Any advise let me know. See pics...
