    Hello All,

I recently picked up a 2021 Tacoma offroad. I would like to get a lift and some tires for it. Back in 17, I had a Tacoma SR5 with blisten 5100's and some 285/75/16 Ko2's on stock 16" wheels with spacers. It rubbed and I had to trim some fender well which I wasnt happy about.

This time around, I would like to try something new. I will also like to try a better sized tired (seems I should have got 285/70/16).

I am thinking about purchasing some 17" 4runner TRD pro SEMA wheels for it. I like how they space the wheels out without use of a spacer. I'll need some new tires for it too.

But what tires and lift to get? I know I do not want to use blocks of any kind for the rear. I also do not want to use any front leveling spacers.

My son continues to tell me KING SHOCK or nothing. But what do you guys suggest? My budget is 2-3K for the lift.

Thoughts and suggestions most welcome as I am not that well versed in the Tacoma mod world.

    Thank you!

This stance is basically what I am looking for...

    Enough for now
Look into Bilstein 6112/5160 with an icon AAL. The top clip setting should give you the stance you want

Thank you for the suggestion. Is this the icon AAL you are talking about?

    https://www.bilsteinlifts.com/shop/...-expansion-pack-add-leaf-96-18-toyota-tacoma/

Is the 6112/5160 combo a major improvement over the 5100 I use to have on my SR5? I realize its much bigger and has reservoirs. But does that really make a big difference on ride quality and or articulation? And what about control arms? Should I get those?

Yup anything over 1.5'' and I'd recommend control arms. They probably don't ride too different, but the 6112s/resi rears will just handle that much more abuse before shock fade on washboard forest roads/hard wheeling. No difference in articulation.

Thank you. That's a nice stance. And in my budget! Is that a better solution than 6112/5160 combo with AAL?

Bilsteins 6112 & 5160 w/ icon add-a-lift springs are nice? Upper control arm should be consider, along front drop kit , sway bar relocation kit, maybe a rear drive shaft drop kit? And bump stops!

I Ironman sells a complete lift kit. You still may need front drop kit and relocation sway bar? You may want to talk to them?

Most people like the 33’s , but I think the 32’s fit better , better mileage and cheaper then the 33’s.I still had to do a chop. On my 2019 TRD. BFG’s are consider the most popular, proven!

Stay away from spacers kit , cheap for a reason.

Fox , Icons, & Kings and a few others, consider the top of the line! Best I think to visit a few off roads shops, talk to guys of what kind of off roading you may be doing first! If any near by?

Most 2-3 inch lift will take you most places?
Money , the more available, the more choices anyone can make!

I think if my limits of $$$$ were higher? Most likely I would have gone to Fox or Kings?
Then again, if I had more $$$$, maybe I would not be buying Tacoma? But something else? Lol
    Aloha

@bigworm, It's the 285 width size that is rubbing, not the 70 or 75 height. 265/75/16 or 265/70/17 will not rub.

I have the same 17" Sema wheels with 275/70/17, with a 2.5 inch lift and UCAs, and had to trim a little bit at the rear of the wheel well. The truck you posted will almost certainly rub without trimming. I'd buy the Toytech kit, UCAs, trim a bit and put on 275/70/17s. I wouldn't recommend going any bigger on that wheel, due to its width.

How will you use the truck is the first question before you ask about lifts and tires.

Thank you all for the replies. Looking into the Kings, there is no way. Too long of a wait and just too much money. Leaning towards the 6112/5160 combo with a AAL. Wheel wise, I found there is a trd pro sema replica wheel (on this forum) that are much wider with 0 offset. So I might go that route. Tire wise, I might just do the 275. The 285/75/16 on the SR5 where huge, heavy and they rubbed alot even with the 5100 kit lift.

Truth be told this was my sons truck, I am driving this truck now because my on joined the US Army after 2 years in college. Hes almost done with basic and then he starts his advanced training soon. He got his college credits but wanted to serve. So I am going to pimp this truck out a little and give it back to him once he completes his advanced training. He doesnt know that. But thats my plan. After his advanced training, he will be stationed in upstate NY unless he gets deployed to Europe.

So I know he would want 33's or bigger if he could. But I would rather have a clean functional setup with minimal chopping if any. So I am fine with 275's. I just need to figure out what exactly to get so I can get it ordered and installed.

You got my vote for the 6112 , 5160, AAl. Please consider SPC upper control arm, add the front drop kit , sway bars relocation kit, and get new bump stops to match the lift. Yes those numbers will add up! 32’s be fine, He can always go bigger later?
That is the set I have on my 2019 Tacoma TRD. For the 6112’s please go 5/4 heights, they say a more comfortable ride. I did a 5/6 , but I cannot compare, all I know this works for me!

I did my basic at Fort Campbell Kentucky 1971. I can still remember most of it. Made a lot of friends. There was four of us from Hawaii, our Drill Sergeant, almost every detail (so call volunteers ) when he need 4 of them, would call , “ I need the four PINEAPPLES…and off we went…lol

Thanks for the advice. What is the front drop kit?

and if one does 5/4, doesn’t that lower the front? I’m trying to keep it level. So if I did 5/4, would the rear be ass up with the aal?

I basically want a small lift that doesn’t require me to change everything out and fit a 32” tire now that you guys have educated me about the 285 vs 275.

There sure is a lot to lifting trucks vs my sports car world modding. Good lord there are so many things one must do to get good results. lol.

The front drop kit, drops the front DIFF , lower drive shafts angles to maintain stock height. Cost varies $30-$50. Recommended. Bilstein shock the 6112s has a height adjustments rings , I order mine preloaded
Usually you want the driver side one ring higher to balance the level , because of the weight of the driver.
When ordering preloaded they set it? If not then you can set when you received it.p, you will need to compress the springs.
You may want to call “Shock Surplus” they were really helpful. Answer all my questions and they Ship to Hawaii. They keep you informed about the shipping, they did for me.

Expect some tire rubs fender trimming , 275/75r/17 BFG AT on 17x9 rims w/ 12 off set. I also order the cab mount chop plates (need to be weld on) $30.00 Some Tacoma owners will have no problems ?

With any lifts? Expect some issues, hopefully yours will go well!
I found the factory ride for the streets was great. But off roads , too soft for my style, the firmness of the 6112s ,5160 was a great improvement. But at times I wish I could adjust the stiffness to a bit softer?
Good luck , let’s us know when done?
    Aloha
