Let me preface that i have zero experience with engine work whats so ever.

After getting an alignment and tire rotation done by firestone, they had gone and done a full service check. They had noticed that my rear left valve cover gasket was leaking.

I had asked if this was an immediate danger and if was needed to be fixed as soon as possible. The technician said that there was no sense of urgency in this situation and to just get my gasket replaced at 50k miles (currently at 35k). He said that it was a small leak and the only major issue was that it’d get my engine bay dirty and could lead to other issues.

I felt like the technician had downplayed this issue but since i have zero engine work experience, i dont think my emotions were valid.

I was hoping you guys could tell me how important and urgently i needed this issue fixed. I don’t mind getting it done, just alittle strapped for cash at the moment (college student). I was worried more harm would come if this issue was left unaddressed. Since my car is only 2 years old and at 35k, i think im still covered by that warranty.

You're within the powertrain warranty, I would take it in.

    Urgent?
    No, not really.

The sooner you get it to the dealership, the better.
As warranty work is always better to have done as soon as possible.

The only “urgent” thing about that leak is the very small and unlikely possibility it leaks enough oil to cause the oil level to be low. And that’s highly unlikely. Not if you change your oil regularly and check it every once in awhile.

He's right, it's not an urgent leak. Most vale cover leaks are generally low volume with nothing hitting the ground. Waiting 15,000 miles to fix it is not something I could do. It's more of a, if you need the time to get it done because of finances/obligations you have it. If nothing is stopping you, get the gasket replaced as soon as possible.

It’s covered under your warranty. Just take it to the dealer and get it done. I definitely wouldn’t wait until 50,000 miles. Why would you wait? Just get the damn thing done.

That is the high pressure pump leaking.

There is a TSB and warranty extension out for that.

Even if you can't smell the fuel, the vapor is collecting dirt and appears like a leak.

Get it inspected and get the part ordered asap.

I don't know what the TSB # For US trucks is to check the VIN. I can check the VIN against my canadian records though if you want to message it to me.
