I recently purchased a 2000 Tacoma with the SST, it has a 6 speed transmission but from what I've found online that my engine is most likely a 2.4... however I have found that these two didn't come together, maybe they did on the SST but I cant find much info on the SST models. someone I think on here said it was essentially just a graphic and some bigger wheels but I am not sure if that is true. the engine has a sticker reading e3rz-n83e. for some reason i cant find a definitive answer for this engine code either.

I am currently having issues where the engine is cranking and doesn't seem to be turning the fuel system on. I know the culprit is most likely the circuit opening relay under the steering wheel. also if anyone would be aware if me trying to start this off a old battery and a booster pack may not be providing enough amperage to the system, but I don't think this is the case. I have checked the fuel pump connected to a battery and it does work. this truck has sat for ten years but still cranks, i have swapped and drained all fluids as well as replaced most of the efi and ecu fuses, the only ones i haven't touched are the relays as they start to get pricey. I have hit them with a screwdriver to try and "wake it up" since it sat for so long. But to really move forward and start to ensure the right fuses and relays are in the right spot i really need a clear indication on what is the situation with this truck. The past owner doesn't really know much about it he just maintained it and drove it back and forth to work. any help is greatly appreciated as I currently don't have a vehicle and am really trying to get this thing going for as cheap as possible.

    thank you in advance!

Typically the 5 lug tacomas would come with the 2RZ which is the 2.4L.
Your engine code from the stickers says 3RZ which is the 2.7L offered in the 6 lug tacomas.
I don't know of any 1st gen tacoma that came with a 6-speed transmission. You're sure it's a 6 speed? Do you have any photos to share?

when i look up the vin it shows up as a 2.4 on toyota, however it shows up as base model. mine has 5 lug. my shifter has a 6 speed photo however when shifting it actually seems like i can only find 6 positions and not the reverse shown.the truck is labeled as a SST but there is basically 0 info on what that intakes as a package.

Looks like an aftermarket sticker and an aftermarket shift knob to me, not any kind of factory package

Someone did that 6-speed shift knob conversion very rare and valuable. JKJK I bet you will find its a 5 speed with the wrong knob.

I’m guessing the sticker on your engine that said 3RZ is the one on the valve cover? It’s definitely possible that your valve cover was replaced and I think the 2RZ and 3RZ are the same.

there should be a stamp on the block that says 2RZ or 3RZ but I’m willing to bet yours is a 2RZ.

    From helping other members here….
    This might confirm
My 2rz(96) has 2 throttle body cables
Member that I helped 3rz(99) had only one
I’m sure a more experienced member can chime in though

    as far as the issue……
10yrs sitting? Got to be FP

    how did you check FP?
Only gets power when key turned all the way and engine cranks(past ACC setting on ignition cylinder)

I dropped the tank emptied it cleaned it out stuck the pump int a bucket of gas and ran it to a 12v battery and worked no issues. put it back in change the rests of the fluids and filters and tried starting it with some starting fluid and it wants to go for just a second then dies.

    5 lug? Your first picture shows it’s a 4 lug. :D

But 80% is a passing grade, right?

I’d be very hesitant to shift into 6th at highway speed, ‘cause that shift position is actually “R”, which may or may not stand for “Racing”.

It'd definitely stand for "rebuild" if you shift into "6th" at highway speed!

You have to check for fuel pressure at the fuel rail in the engine bay. With a gauge
