    Need help choosing suspension/lift!

Currently I am looking into Dobinsons IMS/Bilstein 6112/5160 combo or some Old Man Emu.

I want the ability to off-road when needed but also have a comfortable ride on the road. The off-roading would be nothing absolutely crazy but want the option to climb if needed.

Anyone have an thoughts/ideas to share or other options?

There are multiple posts regarding suspensions. Different opinion from different people. Ready to get super confused and end up with a shitty lift. Just get what you think is ok and hope for the best.

    Some Serious Tires
Running 2887 OME springs, nitro charger soft valved shocks, and medium dobinsons leafs (dakars tend to squeak)

Added winch, front aluminum stump bumper, TRD skid and steel sliders. After couple years front settled at 1 3/4” and rear at 2” of lift.

I removed sway bar few months ago and wish I’ve done it sooner, truck rides great on and off road. One minor complaint is the downtravel, I’ve only got about 2 1/4” of down travel at the front. Occasionally I will feel a “thud” when my front shocks top out.

If I was to do it again, I would have went with extended travel front shocks for an extra ~7/8”s of downtravel.

Check out Mudify for Ome lift options. They have good deals and lots of info on lift types. Also good costumer service and fast shipping.
I went w a stock ride 2.5” full suspension lift and UCA’s. Rides grand and handles well, Only complaint is rear leaf springs started squeaking. Been spraying some wd40 and silicone on them and it’s been better. Good luck w your build!

6112’s are popular but excel on road. They’re stiff offroad. For that reason I chose the dobinsons ims. I have yet to install to give feedback but it’s one of the only options that actually utilizes more travel.

I went with Dobinsons twin tubes. I’ve only installed the rears so far and I like how it rides on and off-road. The rest of my parts just came in so I’m looking forward to my day off to get it all installed.

There are a ton of opinions and different ways to go based on your needs. As someone suggested, you become the most informed by simply reading the forums on suspension which cover an immense amount of detail from so many different perspectives.

The more I think about shocks the more I think that it's absolutely throwing to not just go with a tuned Fox/King setup from Accutune or Filthy Motorsports. I could maybe be convinced by some Bilstein 8112's.

I’m in a similar situation. Looking at OME struts, shocks with Dakar leafs. The quote I received is with 887 coils. They recommend to go with 888 coils if adding skids, stump bumper, winch.

I put 5100's and 1" rear blocks on my 2022 TRD Off Road. My use case was I live 5km up a rough dirt road with potholes, etc and did not want to sacrifice comfort or slow down. The 5100's are every bit as comfortable as the factory TRD OR shocks. I picked up 1.6" in the front and 1" in the rear without sacrificing ride quality. I find most people on here over-think things and buy better gear than they really need. Maybe that's part of the fun, but the 6112's were double the price to my door in Canada and I'd owned and been satisfied with 5100's in the past and I didn't think too hard about it. I would have gone with the factory TRD lift but Toyota would not release the parts. They did release the parking brake cable spacers and rear blocks, etc which I bought.

    OME2.5lift w/medium leafs

Thanks for sharing, I think I’ll grab this real soon from mudify- https://**********/products/ometac-2gen-2-5-ass?variant=44103177732336 looks like the best deal , plus they make it simple. Did you need extended Brake hoses ? Did you get the medium leaf springs? What size rims&offset & tires did you go with? Sorry for to many questions haha, anyway I’ll post b4 and after pics once I do it. Thanks!!

Hey otherphone, I just went with the stock ride suspension. You can look up all the specs on mudify there. So yea all new shocks, front and rear springs and went with the OME upper control arms and they are beefy! I did not have to extend break lines. I’m not currently running any aftermarket steel bumpers or heavy loads so that’s why I went w the stock ride. I can still load the crap out of my truck and it handles great!
Wheels are just the stock 16” off road w 265/75 bfg ko2’s. They are getting really worn and are my 2nd set! My next tires are going to be 285/75-16’s and I am reading I’ll have to get 1 1/4” wheel spacers to bump offset out to clear UCA’s if I want to use my wheels.

Another option I’m contemplating is 285/70-17’s on some Methods or the black 4Runner pro type everyone is running. Both new wheel options are spendy tho. I’ll only be set back 2-300 $ for new spider track type wheel spacers.I really like my stock wheels, But I see tons of other 1st and 2nd gens, older 4Runner,ect. Running them! They are always on CL for good deals.
    Good luck w your build!
