Currently trying to change all four ball joints in my yard. I rented a ball joint press from oreillys but it’s not working very well

What are you having issues with? Right size adapters?

When removing, hit the LCA with a torch. When reinstalling, put the BJ in the freezer for an hour. Right before install, heat the LCA with a torch and the cold ball joint will go in a lot easier.

Also power tools are your friend.

Adapters. I can’t make any variation do any good. It only came with 3 sleeves and 2 plates

Did you rent it? The one we rented from autozone came with a bunch of adapters.

I'd go back and see if they have a master kit. Like @EatSleepTacos said your probably need something else. you could probably use what you have to get it out but risk marring up the new replacement ball joints with out the right adapters. I'd lend you my kit if you youre in phx?

    What hasn't been modified?
If they don’t have the master kit, I’ve herd that harbor freight has a kit with the correct size cup to press the ball joint

Are you trying to use the ball joint press with only a wrench? When space is limited that I can't use an impact gun, I have used a 2 foot long ratchet and it still can be a total nut buster turning the ball joint press. I think you need more leverage.

When we pressed out the upper, We didn't have anything on the top. On the bottom we just had one large cup.

I haven’t the slightest clue. Just used the one that fit. Sorry I can’t help more.

only thing i can say is make sure theres a sleeve big enough to go over the bigger side of the ball joint so you dont have the sleeve on the ball joint, and use a pipe to get more leverage. Should just screw down and pop out the bottom. Ive never had to use torch or freeze anything. It may help though...

It’s either bigger or smaller & the one that works best, ends up slipping off.

The receiver socket doesn’t have enough room to settle down
