So, about 45 min into a 3 hr trip up to Vt, a truck in front of me had a couple of empty 30 pack boxes in his bed. One came flying out and hit the side of my windshield frame. I was in a rush to go drink VT beer and boiling off sap while maple syruping with buddies so I didn't bother to stop and get his info... I figured the box wouldn't have caused any damage.

I was wrong, it sheared off my antenna. the nub of the antenna was stuck in there, so i tried an ez out. My cheap easy out's threads were already beat up from using it a few times (with success). Does anyone have any idea of what I can can do? This is what I am left with now:

Is the next step to try to remove or replace this nut?

or do i need to replace all of this?

Use a new easy out or go ahead with your idea of replacing the nut. It's one of those things that I wouldn't waste a whole lot of time on. Either way you go, let me know if you need/want another antenna. I think I have one somewhere in my garage. If I do, I'll send it to you for free.

Thanks! I might take you up on the offer. I bought a new one from the dealer... $43. if a new easy out doesn't work, then i have a feeling that i will need to replace the harness.

If your truck was older, I would say you might as well buy the assembly you show in second pic. I've never been able save one older than 10 years.

Seeing how your truck is only 4 years old, it should come out with a decent easy out.

I'm rooting for the cheap repair.

Yikes at the $43 and the possibility of replacing the harness.

Ran into this problem when I did my snorkel....

Easiest way, get new nut, new mast, and new mast base (part with wiring). Drill it all out with a bigger drill bit and replace it all. Replacing the base is super easy. The radio connection is in the interior a pillar. So much easier than older trucks where it plugged straight into the radio.

Justgo slow and steady with the bit. I rushed it and the bit jumped twice. Gouged my paint down to bare metal. I used a little touchup paint and said close enough for government work. Once i replaced the mast, i put a small amount of clear silicone around the base of the antenna. My aftermarket antenna had let water get into the base, causing it to prematurely rust out.

Hey man sounds like shitty luck!!! So I am an auto body. Almost every Tacoma that I have to work on passenger fender antenna nut strips and splits. So that requires replacing the nut, base, and antenna going to back of radio. The best way I have found to do this is just cutting it off since you have to replace anyway. If you try to get off by turning you will just damage fender. Remove fender liner retainers will probably break aveco part # 14267 cheaper than oem. Then from top of fender start at base about 1/4 up. Angle up cut all they way through. Becareful not to hit fender have done probably 20 times never hit fender. Once it's all the way cut remove 10 mm bolt under fender and pull antenna down. Antenna connects inside cab under passenger upper pillar trim.

Seems like it would be easier to remove the whole fender than all that other work, glove box, etc... Not sure, as I haven't taken a fender off yet.

Unfortunately fender can't be removed until antenna is free. So removing the fender won't help in this case.

Also you would have to remove liner, headlamp, grill and partial front bumper to remove fender.

I got a new easy out... no luck

I picked up a generic antenna kit that had a bunch of different threads for different vehicles and tried to tap new threads... didn't work either. It looks like I will be needing the wiring kit and following Tacocat's walkthrough. The big question is when.

    Thanks everyone for your input.

What a coincidence I had to do what you need to do to replace your antenna today at work. I have some pictures to help with step by step. MVIMG_20180316_165512.jpg
