Hey all, first post, hope you can help. I need to change my expansion valve and cannot for the life of me find it. I assume it is behind the blow assembly, but I can get it out from under the dash. What am I missing?

It is a monster to get to. It is here between the Evaporator Coil and the firewall:

Its looking like the whole dash has to come out. How the heck do you get the top dash out of there.

There was another guy doing this, I suggest searching around because I believe he did not have to take the dash off but it was a PITA.

Expansion valve can be removed thru the firewall. Evaporator is another story.

That is good to know. Is there a bolted cover over the opening where the lines go to the AC System or what? Or is it just an opening with a seal?

Just behind the rubber seal is the expansion valve. The valve to connector tube part shown in your cut is what is going thru that boot.

Well that makes life a lot easier if I ever need an expansion valve.

Thanks for the picture. I was going to look today, but it is raining.

I wish I'd taken pictures of the system as I was disassembling and reassembling it.

Did they build the whole truck around the evaporator? I was hoping to be able to access mine just to clean the fins. Now I have no idea what I'm going to do.

You sure the evaporator needs to be cleaned?

When I bought the truck, I noticed a bad smell. Removed the cabin air filter and fpund this:

Since getting all that crap out it is much better, but I can only assume there's more like it in the evaporator.

Possibly some really small stuff but if the system is working good, it's more than likely ok.

You basically have to disassemble the interior dash down to sheet metal to get to it.

It's not too bad... It does seem to be working okay but it's difficult to judge when fighting the heat in az. I've seen products like pg clean - is it even feasible to reach the outside of the housing to drill a hole and spray something like that in there?
