    2014 Tacoma, 14K miles. Just got this truck and installed 3 inch Pro Comp lift with struts, springs, and shocks. K5081BP part number with ProRunner Shocks. Also have 33" Open Country RT with 20" Fuel Rims.

    Had this installed at off road shop with very good reputation. The truck was doing fine in and around Houston where the roads aren't to bad. Only had the lift on for about 2 weeks and I had to leave Houston for work where I got into some places with some rougher pavement. I immediately noticed that over simple "road" bumps, it felt like the front end of the truck like to have beat the hell out of me. I have been in trucks with aftermarket "offroad" suspension and never felt it this bad. I am afraid to even take it off road as I can only imagine what ruts and washboard roads would feel like. At one point I hit a pothole that hit so hard my drink came out of the cupholder. I am new to the lifted "owner" world and have been suggested that I may need after market control arms and been told that I could be hitting bump stops causing the jarring. Looking for any experience with this issue and any help I can get. I know that the ride should be a little harder than stock, which I expected, but this seems to be a lot worse than what should be normal. (no childseat could be put in this truck right now bc it hits so hard) I had a headache after the couple hour drive. Help please!

    I had 17"x33" tires on my Silverado when I bought it. I got 20" rockstars with 33" toyo M/t's and it turned a really smooth ride into a jarring piece of crap. My 2015 Taco that replaced the Silverado has 17"x33" and it rides well. I think 20" rims should be used with 35" tires or stay on a good freeway.

    in another thread, people suggested that the coils on my kit are rated too high (710lbs) that would make sense as it doesnt allow much give and i have no intention of a steel bumper/winch. if that is the case, is it possible to just replace the coils with a lower rated coil, but keep the same struts in order to not be out so much $ ?

    This is true!

    Pro comp makes some of the stiffest shocks for off road or lifted trucks

    ^^ I have the 886...this spring is on the very stiff side for me, to the point where I've considered getting 887's (same height, but less weight coils).

    I also have a front bumper, with a winch and skid plates and rock sliders on the way. a lot more weight than the OP.

    I can NOT imagine having anything stiffer than that...that would just be....STIFF!!!

    Hi guys! My name is Rick and im new to TW and glad i finally joined! I've posted my rough ride situation in the link below. Any help or insight would be greatly apprecaited. More than anything, id like to know if its an instillation thing or just lack of quality by the lift and what i could do to improve my ride (upgrade UCA's?).

    Engage Long Travel 6 over with race spindles. 2.5x8 sway a ways wrapped in King Coils.
    Seriously will never buy from Pro Comp again! Swapped out everything and went Icon Mid travel all the way around with custom Atlas leafs.
    Pro comp literally was like being in a fucking honda civic stiff as shit! Just throwing in my hatred for the company :D

    Yup!

    OP, did you have the lift installed after you bought it? Or did it come with the truck? My condolences if it was installed after purchase.

    ^^ This. The spring rate is too high for your setup. And ditch the dubs.

    I went with Fox, and Air Bags.
    I tow a Jeep and love the way it handles.
    Towed to Moab and back, no problems.
    Smooth ride all the way.

    Are you sure about that? Its weird because you would think they would be build them up just like the factory struts. What do they weld the coil to the bottom perch or something?

    I would assume the coils are designed the same as the factory coils and therefore the perch would be the same. This is the case with the OME and Bilstien struts which is why the coils are interchangeable.

    If you want a good ride get Icon's.

    It's knows when to be stiff and knows when to cushion bumps. It's stiff so it doesn't ride all mushy like the stock suspension. But at the same time it soaks up bumps. It gives the best of both worlds.

    1) Pour through thousands of posts on TW to learn which Bilstein, Old Man Emu or Icon suspension is best suited for your needs and budget;

    2) Buy Bilstein, Old Man Emu or Icon suspension system from any number of highly regarded businesses which support TW (see, e.g., Toytec, Wheeler's, Down South Motorsports, etc.)

    3) Remove Pro Comp suspension components and 20" wheels/tires - sell on Craigslist;

    4) Install Bilstein, Old Man Emu or Icon suspension system;

    5) Install 16" or 17" wheels, and 32" or 33" tires of reputable manufacturer;

    6) Become another victim of Pro Comp's utter lack of engineering or even basic knowledge of Tacoma suspension.

    Pretty darn sure, yes. Mine was dealer installed and I initially worked with the dealer, 4WP and DSI to do something about the harsh ride (as well as other issues I won't go into here) I was told the springs were fixed and would have to change the CO's to modify the ride. Makes sense because Pro Comp markets inexpensive set ups. Preying on the uninformed, like myself :rolleyes:
